Why are movies so bad these days?

One of my family members who lives in deep snow country told me that in the winters some homeless people commit minor petty crimes like breaking a window or something in order to get sent to jail and get some food and shelter from the harsh weather conditions.

If they could they would only show you ads and charge you for the pleasure.
