  • Uh huh.

Mate, I can hear the squealing whine of a flyback transformer through brick walls with my own ears. I DO NOT miss the days when everyone had two or three of the fucking things screaming away all day.

Detecting the magnetic flux those things produce isn’t magic, tricky, or a cover-up. It just requires a sensitive antenna array tuned to the right frequency.

Now, since the shift to flat panel displays a TV doesn’t announce it’s presence in such an obvious fashion. This makes detecting a TV a much more difficult prospect, arguably not impossible, but not likely within their budget nowadays.

  • Nature produces some absolutely terrifying and ruthless creatures. As awesome and capable as tigers are, you have to at least credit them with honesty and integrity. They are tigers and will act as such, you are prey and you will be hunted, maybe for the food, maybe just for the practice. With that, one can treat them with respect and care they deserve, and everyone involved can benefit. (We’re generally a long way from that, and animals like the tiger are being royally fucking shafted and exploited, but I digress.)

People however… People fucking scare me. Capable of such great things, but so easily led by their fickle and unstable emotions. Conniving and dishonest, and as likely to shiv you (metaphorically or literally) as help you, depending on their preconceived notions of who you are. Tribal, shortsighted, small-minded and fucking angry about it.

Give me tigers any day of the week.

  • Not about some things, no.

This isn’t your fault, but is because an awful lot of people are simply fucking stupid, and will read it at face value.

Other people then have to expend great effort to explain the details of why it was only a joke, to someone who can’t count to ten, with their fingers to count on.

This has to be done because fucking stupid people get to vote too, and they take jokes as serious info.

  • I’ve found an acid test for susceptibility to VR sickness. Driving in VR.

Most brains know what it feels like to be in a car, in control or otherwise. Feed in only the visuals of “being in a car” and watch the face turn green in tandem with the brain’s ancient “we’ve eaten poison!” subroutine kicking in.

In Elite: Dangerous, I can pirouette a Vulture round an asteroid field -permaboosting with flight assist off- shooting other ships all day long. Drop an SRV onto a moon and drive 100 metres, pass me the sick bucket.

I put this down to having plenty sensory memory of “car” but none of “high velocity space fighter”.
