There are different ways to interpret this. I don’t think fiction should be a source of artificial validation, but I recognize there’s value in finding something that resonates with you, even if seemingly mundane.

My take is different. I know someone who started going to therapy because their kids threatened no contact. They’re on medication now but the narcissism still persists. Now, they act enlightened and projects their shortcomings on to others by not so subtly encouraging them to watch self help vids that only validate their own feelings. They are basically going, “see? I’m better now. This video talks about letting the past stay in the past so we call all get along,” but now the subtext is that the others are the problem.
