cats@lemmy.world•Do any of you actually call your cats by their names?
81·21 days agoBooker gets yelled at a lot so he very much knows his name well. He also knows Book or BookBookBookBook.
Hollow on the other hand does get called by his name, but he couldn’t care less. They both do get called several nicknames as well.

254·27 days agoNo way!? That’s insane. Wow. Wow. Thanks for this fact
Lol, yep. I was a little taken aback by that comment. 12 things? 12?! I need to start a physical list if I have more than two things to do.
A former cat of mine would go crazy for hair ties. He was absolutely fantastic at fetch.
My current cat I just discovered will fetch those little wormy guys. He purrs the whole time and it’s so so adorable.

1·2 months agoGoofy Nintendo music. Love the whimsy.
But lately my brain has switched to working better while listening to podcasts, so I’ve been working through a bunch of radio plays. I’m currently on Video Palace, while also going through The White Vault with a friend. I think Unwell is next and then Alice Isn’t Dead, maybe.
This is super reminiscent of Randowis to me. Love it.

No Stupid Questions@lemmy.world•Did y'all ever felt curious about your parent's past? If your relationship with parents isn't close, how does one get their parent's story without making the interaction awkward?
3·2 months agoBoth of my parents had difficult upbringings that both of them need some serious therapy for. I don’t really know any details, but a little bit ago my mom got a random call from an investigator in southern California. They had either caught some guy or were trying to catch some guy that killed a string of young girls some 30 years ago. All I know is that after talking more thoroughly with the investigator, she was sobbing - and my mother is a very hard woman. She had a run in with this guy and my guess is that there was something very traumatic involving an SA. But I don’t know and I don’t want to know because I don’t have the oomph to carry that weight with her unless she goes to therapy.
I know some other stories from either of them and it rings true that hurt people hurt people. But I don’t want to know more about any of the hard times nor the party times because it’s too much for me to bear.
I call this shit Evil Boredom.
It’s the worst and it makes me feel angry and guilty and dumb and broken. Evil. Evil Boredom.
It’s been long enough since Nyan cat that I can no longer remember the song. What instead started circulating in my mind was Katamari Damacy, hahaha

Their names are Booker and Hollow
Booker’s nicknames are Book, Bookbookbookbookbook, Stinky, and Baby because his meow is tiny and he’s baby
Hollow’s nicknames are Mister Man, Kermit (his meow sounds like Kermit swallowing a tennis ball), Holla at ya homeboy, Stinky, and Chocolate Boi because he turns chocolate brown in the sunlight.
They’re both so stupid and I love them.
That’s really funny. I have two voids and they’re also determined by their fur texture and voices.

No Stupid Questions@lemmy.world•What's the best way to ease getting back in shape after years of little to no exercise?
13·3 months agoDepending on where you live, a bike can do wonders. I hate the gym too, but being able to ride my bike and see different places and things at my own pace is really motivating for me.

No Stupid Questions@lemmy.world•How do I finally get a long term career and become financially independent?
1·3 months agoI’m going to second the college info. My ex phoned his CS degree in and didn’t have anything to show for his skills when it came time to find a job.
I hustled, kept my grades up, and was honest with my professors when I didn’t understand something. I got an internship across the country and as soon as I came back the main professor for my major helped get me two more internships while he also helped try to find me connections with his old jobs. I know I’m not the only one he did this with.
But now I’ve been working for a unionized job with my degree for 4 years and am climbing up the ladders.
Put in effort and try to be your honest self and it raises your chances of things working out.

No Stupid Questions@lemmy.world•How do I finally get a long term career and become financially independent?
2·3 months agoGetting an associates degree can help you a lot if you have the ability to do so. There are a lot of medical jobs that you can nab with a 2 year degree. X-ray tech, cat scan tech, MRI tech, ultrasound tech, etc. You can also do back of house stuff such as medical coding or IT for hospitals. You can also get an associates in chemistry and work in a lab. You can work as an insurance actuary. Maybe look up what certifications your local community college offers. Certs usually lead to jobs.
If school isn’t in your budget yet, or just not your thing, landscaping is almost always hiring, as are construction jobs. They’re hard on your body, but it’s a job to start with. Someone mentioned trucking, a CDL is a great idea. Again, not easy work, but it’ll pay the bills until you feel like doing something else. Forklift certifications are good to have as well, although I’m not positive on how long those take.
You have a lot of options for sure, and you’re young. The world is your oyster, it’s just up to you to put in the effort.

No Stupid Questions@lemmy.world•Are there good Movies, TV Shows, Anime, with wholesome family (particularly parent-child) relations?
3·3 months agoThe Fragrant Flower Blooms With Dignity
It’s a new anime and it’s more focused on the kids, but the relationship the main has with his family is so good. Honestly all of the characters are just so darn good. They’re all so wholesome and just good.
Right? It looks like it should be Susie?
