I feel you, and agree with most of it… buuutttt I think it’s even more frustrating to know you had a good reference that was closed and then spent a stupid amount of time to find again.
Everyone has their own workflow, whatever works.

I have, mostly. The search engine wasn’t the point; they’re all pretty terrible these days with the absurd AI spam everywhere.
It’s a combination of things… I’m a software developer, so I’ll often end up with 20+ tabs open while resolving a problem.
My tab hoarding has only gotten this bad because search engines are terrible now and the amount of AI garbage to sort through makes finding anything useful a pain in the ass the first time; let alone trying to find it a second time.
Correction: companies are implementing it into their search engines. Users are just providing feedback.
Ironically, Google’s original non-LLM summary was pretty great. That’s gone now.

Honestly, thank you for posting the details and results. Regardless of anyone’s opinions, it’s a fascinating thought experiment.

Same, that’s why I really wish they spent more time revealing and unwinding the mystery of the gorge. It just felt like an afterthought.

Agreed. Honestly, the whole third act felt a bit rushed to me. They spent so much time setting up the characters relationships - not complaining - but then speed ran any of the mystery.

Has Jellyfin improved its subtitle fetching? It’s been awhile since using Jellyfin. I stayed with Plex because downloading subtitles on the fly wasn’t available in Jellyfin, and no extensions for it either.

JS has bid 26 times now without missing a beat. It’s up to $2,345. That’s insane… and with 8 days left! Like bruhh what?? I refuse to believe they genuinely want to purchase it vs just driving up the price.

Oh god, yes this too. All the sponsored location spam drives me crazy. I love when I zoom in to a location and it doesn’t mark ANY of the shops besides STARBUCKStm

It has definitely been getting worse over years, but I specifically meant the last couple of weeks. I could still find what I needed between all the garbage… now I can’t even find it after adjusting the search multiple times.

If you can’t do better, then at least add some cute cat pictures in it. At least then I’ll feel a crumb of joy with every wasted effort!

Unfortunately, I’m usually searching software development issues and half the results are a decade old (and are no longer relevant for the language anymore). Assuming “after:xx” works too this night help, thank you!

You honestly though the most used search engine has been abandoned by everyone? Maybe share what you’re using instead of just being pretentious?

Aside from DDG, these are all new to me. I’ll take a look this week, thank you.

I’ve been swapping around search engines too, but they still seem bad. I always end up back at Google just because I know how to manipulate the search terms better.

I’ve used Kagi’s free trial. I’d turn to it when nothing else was helping and it did really well, but recently it hasn’t been helping either. It’s probably still fine for most things, but I’m often searching niche developer/programming things that are too burried under SEO/AI spam to find anymore.

Ooo I haven’t heard of this, thank you! The amount of garbage they’ve added is absurd.
If this was the expectation, then it should have been a checklist and/or had N/A available. I don’t think your data for this section will be accurate since myself/others replying did not use it this way.
I used “disagree” as “I am using a non-self hosted service for this,” the middle as “N/A” and the agree as “I am hosting a service for this”…
