Control systems will have to be air gapped going forward. This IOT fetish that the MBAs had is going to come back and bite a bunch of products in the ass.

AI is absolutely incredible at finding vectors for arbitrary code execution. It can jump from layer to layer to layer to find an exploit. I want all of my appliances from now on to be dumb and not connected to the internet.

Being “smart” and connected to the internet is about to devalue a lot of manufactured goods that have no business being either one of the those things.

Ban parking and reclaim some roads and convert them to pedestrian areas and the cars will go away naturally.

The monopolists realized that their product is no longer unique so they have to create bottle necks in order to force out competition.

Also, some people have bad mmr, not because they are bad players, but because they are so incredibly toxic that they either int when they don’t get their way or they dog other players into playing poorly or inting themselves.

When I set out to try a new moba I play around and try all the characters (or at least the meta ones), which is like the first 25 games. Then I focus on one that I like and try to get good with that one so that I have at least a one trick pony. At that point you can start to slot in other characters situationally. Problem is that that’s 100s of games just to learn how to play, much less to become a little competitive. The lower levels of competition are not necessarily people that are bad mechanically, they just don’t understand the game. It reminds me of WoW in that the people at the top levels of the game are the most unemployed.

“Students who cheat on their homework don’t learn as much” is a better headline.

Open AI is already backing out of their IPO too.

As a percentage of Capex to GDP it’s about a third of the way to where the railway mania was at during its peak. There’s room to run. The difference between then and now is that all the spending is concentrated in a handful of companies.

Most of the historical boondoggles took about 5 years to work their way out. We are on year 3. If that’s any guide, we got a whole lot more electric boogaloo left to play.

Also yes.

Uh, I know people in Houston (the most car dependent major city in the US) who would call an uber to cross the street because it’s so fucking hot in the summer you would need to change your suit if you tried the trip on foot.

I’m assuming this is about the 372 math “breakthroughs” they recently posted. The top “discoveries” seem to be trivial cases that don’t give much insight into the broader conjectures and many of them don’t even have a lean proof so they can’t remotely be trusted as correct (and having a lean proof isn’t necessarily proof that it’s correct either). They basically crapped out everything the AI did and said you figure out!

Just listened to some of his songs and he just sounds like a cheap imitation of the great folk singers of the 60s and 70s and he’s completely on the nose with his lyrics. Reminds me a lot of James McMurtry and Jason Isbell, but less interesting musically.

This reminds me of the programmer who wrote a script to text his girlfriend at random intervals to say one of a list of phrases like “I am thinking about you,” or “How is your day going?” Big tech thinks that all human interaction can be automated and when it comes to getting people addicted to and entirely dependent on social media they are kind of right.

Honestly the best thing my father could have done for me was not try to parent me because he was a fucking asshole that had no idea how to relate to children. I guess you could say I’m a glass half full kind of guy.

Whenever big tech companies like Meta do useful things like support Overture Maps Foundation (which is also supported by Microsoft and Amazon) they are doing it to blunt some competitive advantage another tech company has, such as google in this case. They support open source insofar as they can’t monetize whatever they are open sourcing.
The reason they want to get people comfortable using the app is so they can move all control to an app to save money, which will be a worse UX. I’m so sick of using my phone or some ipad screen to do everything. Most appliances just need a few buttons.
