Less nice: the arcs of nazisms and bigotry

I think the difference is that sealioning is a pattern of behavior, rather than just occasionally asking for a source. It describes the lack of intent to engage in good faith discussion and instead just is a method of trolling.

One other thing I haven’t seen mentioned is selling ice cream is only a sustainable business for a few months out of the year in many places. Whereas you can sell burgers/dogs/etc year-round. But yeah, as far as I know they’ve always sold fast food - their burgers were a fave of mine when I was a kid in the 70s.

Honestly, one of the many damning things about Hollywood is that she has a career at all. She straight up can’t act. It’s not even that she acts poorly - she’s so devoid of personality that she can’t emote on screen. Hell, even in the Hot Ones interview she seemed to be merely going through the motions of reacting. I don’t usually care about claims of someone just being a nepobaby, but in her case I can’t imagine anyone would know who she is if it weren’t for who her parents are.

Just a suggestion - don’t say you “created” something when you then go on to say you had AI do it for you.

Ha! Was curious and just checked - they recently banned me from the same communities. I certainly don’t go looking for AI stuff to downvote but probably have done so a couple times if I see it in /all and it’s egregiously bad. Guess that was too much for them.
Imagine being so incredibly fragile that you ban folks because they downvoted a post on a site where karma doesn’t exist and you had an AI create the content you posted.
I think as more people get sick of AI bullshit, the cheerleaders are seeing the reaction and thinking it’s some dark conspiracy when it’s just folks saying “Hmm, that’s kinda crappy, isn’t?”

It’s like every company in the world just hired the world’s most incompetent intern, won’t fire them after multiple mistakes, and we’re all supposed to put up with it.
Can’t wait for someone to rely on AI to update food allergen info on a product! 🙄

I’ve been married for more than 30yrs - and the sometimes harsh (but constructive) feedback an editor needs to supply is not a model for a lasting marriage. Also, a spouse has different motivations than a professional, independent editor provided by a publisher.
As for the writing, every single person who has ever talked to me about WoT mentions the world-building and overall story, but I’ve never heard anyone praise Jordan’s writing style, dialog, or pacing - if it’s mentioned at all, it’s usually in the nature of “there’s problems with the writing but the story makes it worth it.” While the novels may resonate with folks for good reason, that doesn’t change the fact that the writing - from a technical standpoint - is subpar.

Wasn’t implying anything about her gender causing an issue and weird that you chose to go there. My point was that an editor is supposed to provide direct, impartial, and sometimes cutting feedback to an author. In addition to providing basic copy editing, an editor on a novel has to be able to call an author on their BS, and I don’t believe she did that in editing her husband’s books.
The writing is repetitive, long-winded, and self-indulgent. The novels have absolutely no sense of pacing and plotting is not done with any sort of strategy. She may have been a fantastic editor, but her husband’s works were poorly edited, and the fact that she was his wife I think speaks volumes as to why.

Considering the original author had his wife do his editing, rewriting is hardly the worst thing that could have happened.

Well, if he loves movies, he should do one about the disappearance of Shelly Miscavige - that would be fascinating!

There’s at least one study showing men get an 81% increase in money after a big award win, whereas woman get much, much less but usually something more and greater creative control of which projects they do. If they’re all lumped in the same category, men continue to win the awards and get pay bumps and women get nothing at all.
Not going to bother with an opinion on the adult film industry as that’s ostensibly a similar business but has hugely different economics. Not sure it’s really relevant to this discussion as generally, female performers in adult films go through much more difficulties than their male counterparts - they’re literally not doing the same job, whereas in the mainstream film industry they are.

The current system is less than ideal, but at least with gendered awards, women have a shot at getting awards which translates into bigger future paychecks. What you’re proposing is that the same industry that currently ignores equal pay for women is somehow going to recognize them in a category against the men who are already getting paid more than them?!

If Hollywood considered them equal, they would be paid the same as men for similar roles. While that can happen, it’s still the exception. And usually only happens for women who’ve won awards.
When Hollywood stops basing pay on gender, then we can get rid of the gendered awards.

Respectfully, Buffy’s “Once More With Feeling” is incredible.

The Man With One Red Shoe is much worse than Joe Versus the Volcano. And if made for TV movies count, you have to throw in Mazes and Monsters. Oh and Bonfire of the Vanities was a famous flop. And Volunteers was pretty bad. People forget how bad some of his early stuff was.
Hell, both Forrest Gump and Castaway were tremendously overrated. Also the unwatchable Cloud Atlas and the stupid Dan Brown movies.
<suddenly dawns on me that Tom Hanks makes a lot of bad movies>

I’d seen comments about this account before and noted how the phrasing and comment behavior was a dead ringer for Universal Monk’s usual bullshit. Glad to see others saw the same thing.
No one ever gets to be a Nazi “ironically” - pretend to be a Nazi, and you’re a Nazi. He could agree with me on a dozen issues, and he’d still be a Nazi (and it might make me question that much agreement). Seems awfully convenient all these recent forays into Linux and talking about degoogling - almost like after years of keeping a lower profile, he and his team are trying really hard to rehabilitate his public image.
This isn’t YouTuber “drama” - this is a guy who repeatedly engaged in very public examples of bigotry and parroting Nazi symbols and salutes. So yeah - we do in fact know.
