I would call those normal footprints, not inverse footprints. We call both additive and subtractive marks left by feet “footprints.”

If you were to step in ink, and then step onto paper, that would create a footprint.

I’m reminded of this possibly apocryphal story about Picasso:

[A woman] approached Picasso in a restaurant, asked him to scribble something on a napkin, and said she would be happy to pay whatever he felt it was worth. Picasso complied and then said, “That will be $10,000.”

“But you did that in thirty seconds,” the astonished woman replied.

To me, this story is about the paradox of mastering a craft. If a person has spent decades mastering an art or a craft, then when an amateur sees them working, it looks like it’s trivial. The amateur thinks, “Anybody could do that. I could do that, no problem. It’s easy.” Of course, it only looks easy because it’s the master doing it.

The question was what would MLK Jr think if he were alive, but he’s a ghost, so they only get what he thinks if he’s dead. For all we know, everybody who becomes a ghost simply becomes obsessed with technology.

Man, if I could have save states for my life and be able to reload from like any time in my life… Well, that would be one superpower that I’d like.

These people are better at using AI than like 99% of everybody, since they are actually critically and carefully reviewing its output.

One of the big problems with actually using AI for work is that, even for people who carefully and critically review it, sometimes, it is just too good at making slop look like something real.

As you say, tools are just tools. Even a dumb phone and CD players are “technology.” You can use a hammer to build a house, or you can use it to break into a house and kill the owner. The tool itself really doesn’t hold any sin.

Some people prefer to use older tools, though. It often gives them more of a feeling of connection, especially if we’re talking about the things they grew up with. So, there’s nothing wrong with choosing older technology just because you feel like it, either.

The meme is specifically about cities, so when you said “thinly populated,” that should have been about thinly populated areas of cities.

If you’re actually talking about rural areas and not cities, then you’d want to start with buses. Speaking of living in places with good public transit, I used to live in Japan, and I was surprised by how much buses get used in rural areas. They can get pretty full.

That’s weird. I thought it was everyone driving their own cars all the time that was a huge waste of resources.

Saturn is currently about 1 hour 22 minutes away from Earth at light speed. So even if everything moved at light speed, the time it takes for Saturn to learn of its victory, followed by the time it would take to move here at light speed, would mean that in the 3rd panel, the people are just waiting there looking at the sky for almost 3 hours.
