  • Yoooo, I’ve been playing 3 games this week:

    Uppers

A miracle happened: Steam recommended me a game I ended up actually enjoying. What an insane mess this game is 😂 Last I played it, it had me kick someone into a flying helicopter, it exploded, and the game crashed. Absolute insanity, I love it.

    Assault Android Cactus+

OK, I’m back: finally got over my gripes with the game and can officially say I’ve been converted to a fan. Honestly, in a world where nearly every western twin-stick shooter is some kind of rogue- variant, this game is worth supporting, even though it’s old. I respect Isaac and its legion of mimics, but I find games like this and Nex Machina much more fun. Arcade design FTW 🤘

    Gunvein

Finally went on sale! I waited for a year! Totally worth the wait! What an intense, fun game. Probably my 3rd favorite shmup on Steam, after Crimzon Clover and Hellsinker. I look forward to practicing 1CCs.

  • Hmm… this is common in action games and soulslikes, I think: Arkham in Devil May Cry 3 and Centipede Demon in Dark Souls come to mind. Those fights are all about positioning.

I feel as if this is a common solution to large boss fights in most games with melee combat; whereas humanoid enemies can typically either quickly turn, do sweeping 360 attacks, or teleport behind you (oh hi Vergil) so it’s less about positioning and more about pattern recognition and quick reflexes.

That said, it’s possible I misunderstood what you mean because I haven’t played older MH games or Xenoblade.

  • I was asked if there’s any actor I would’ve liked to be not too long ago, and my answer was Catherine O’Hara. Absolute fucking legend of film, TV, comedy, you name it.

Talk about leaving a legacy and being fawned over by comedy nerds and mainstream audiences alike… unparalleled performer. She will always be one of a kind.

  • Devil May Cry 3.

Yeah, I still don’t like this game. It’s more fun than its predecessors mainly because you can launch and air juggle enemies or do more cool shit like skateboarding or Crazy Dance, but there’s too many humanoid enemies you can’t launch and the absence of an on-the-fly style switcher is very restrictive.

My aim was to judge it for what it is, so I won’t mod the style switcher in this time. I do think they should release the Switch version on PC though.

I will give it this: when you can combo, you can pull off pretty cool shit, but I want a fun action game, not a combo simulator.

I won’t say it’s overrated, but I will say I’d rather play 4 or 5 because I find them more fun.

  • Good eye! It is made by Soleil (Itagaki’s studio) and you’re correct in assuming enemies aren’t as aggressive in general; however, in this particular clip, the grenades the boss keeps tossing from off screen and the multiple group knockdowns/finishers here make them look more docile than they actually are. If I miss the gun counter at the beginning, or if I don’t have enough meter to execute the gun takedown near the end, the encounter was gonna look much different.

The one enemy left near the end did not attack because I killed enough to trigger a cut scene. He comes after me after it ends.

In terms of difficulty, I’m playing on normal here, and I have died a lot so far, but this could be due to my general discomfort with aiming and gun-based combat in most games, so your milage may vary there. Also Hard difficulty is unlocked from the get-go, so the option is available.
