Google isn’t a victim in this. Their “attempts to present useful search results for the user” are financially based. Google wants people to pay for the right to be higher in the results, not game the system.

You’re not wrong that it’s a lot of people, but Google controls their own algorithms.

Fuck AI@lemmy.world•Amazon Caught Destroying Rare Books to Train AI
13·1 day agoIn an investigation by 404 Media, a bookseller suspected that an order they received for 1,000 books on Biblio, a marketplace where buyers can remain anonymous, was for an AI company. So to get to the bottom of the mystery, they agreed to place an Apple AirTag between the pages of one of the volumes.
They tracked the shipment to a site at a massive Amazon warehouse in Nevada, where workers say their job is to strip the spines off of books they receive so they can quickly scan their pages, destroying them in the process.
True, but it hasn’t really innovated much. There’s the foldable screen, but it mostly just looks the same.

5·2 days agoI like world guesser because you can play against people on a timer. For me, it was everything combined. I count it as a video game, lol. I play every so often, but not that often anymore.

2·2 days agoHave you ever played https://www.worldguessr.com/ ? A lot of the guessing has to do with the light. I can sometimes tell Southern France from Florida because one is brighter. It doesn’t always work, but sometimes it does.

I just made that up basing it kind of on a quote from 6 degrees of separation

No Stupid Questions@lemmy.world•SOLVED! How to deal with people who obtusely miss your point on Lemmy?
21·3 days agoI’m absolutely implying intent. There are trolls here, for sure. I probably see it more because I mod a larger community and I’m in politics a lot. If you avoid those communities, you probably have a different perspective. People misunderstand too, and if I get it wrong I apologize.

No Stupid Questions@lemmy.world•SOLVED! How to deal with people who obtusely miss your point on Lemmy?
81·4 days agoIt took awhile to get rid of that for me too. I can spot the trolls pretty easily here though, there are about 10 accounts maybe? I sometimes fall for the trap, but it’s getting rarer and rarer. I have found their patterns, but sometimes it takes me a few comments to see that it’s bad faith.
I think Lemmy/Piefed is so much less addicting, that it doesn’t really matter as much. I guess because the anger is the part that’s addicting and I never realized I was in it until I got away. It’s really strange though, I just quit cold turkey. Which is great, but strange. I’m so glad I did.

An example of how to do it:
You: EVs are better for the environment
Comment: Why are you saying that China should rule the world?
You: I’m saying that EV’s are better for the environment no matter who makes them. Last comment.
An example on how not to do it:
You: EVs are better for the environment
Comment: Why are you saying that China should rule the world?
You: I never said that you asshole. Why are you sticking up for China, you fucking tankie. You’re a troll piece of shit, etc., etc.,
Comment: You said China is amazing, you obviously want to go down on them
You: Why are you saying this shit? Etc., etc., etc. blah, blah, blah

6·6 days agoSome tips:
- We do have some trolls, we’re getting more popular. If you feel like someone is picking on you, those are them.
- Active is the default, but can seem less active because the active posts stay up longer. I made my default Hot, but then I check Active and Top 6 Hours.
- You’re probably going to go through a withdrawel. It varies by person, but mine took about a week or two.
Welcome.

Lmao, Amazon is worried that google and all the other competitors will scrape their information and make money off it. “Yes AI is amazing, but not like thaaaaaaat!” They’re trying to out dirty each other.
