once you learn that there are designated enemies that the press fearmongers about - russia, china, north korea, iran - and designated allies that are always on our side - the US in particular - then you can’t stop seeing this stuff in the press. ‘be fearful of china and russia, they want to kill us!’ ‘The US just invested in its military and put a military base on UK soil, but nothing to worry about, they’ll keep us safe because they’re nice’. makes me sick how brazen it is though

i was watching an american TV show, The Falcon and the Winter Soldier, and the plot has them go to Riga, i think it was. and in the dialogue, the chsracters say something along the lines of “we need to go to Riga, a town near Poland” i can’t remember the specifics, but i felt incredibly patronised, especially when as you say, sometimes all you get is a couple of letters to know which US state we’ve travelled to, because of course we’re in the US.
and to make matters worse, these are internagional spies, mercenaries and diplomats talking to each other. you knpw where Riga is!
