General interest videos about chemistry. Example on-topic YouTube channels include both amateur creators such as Amateur Chemistry, Explosions&Fire, etc, and also professional creators such as Periodic Videos. Rules: 1. All posts must contain or link to a video. 1. No shorts. 1. Format your post title to include the video title, channel name, and length of the video like so: “Title | Channel [hh:mm]” 1. Videos should appeal to viewers with a general interest in chemistry. This rule is designed to limit posting of extremely involved topics which require either a PhD in chemistry or deep knowledge of a highly specific sub-field to enjoy. Videos should be reasonably accessible to a layperson with an AP (accelerated high school) or undergrad understanding of physical sciences. 1. Videos on topics such as metallurgy are allowed within reason. For example, posting a CodysLab video about extracting metals from ores is okay. Posting 10 precious metals refining videos in a row, not okay. 1. English only. 1. Don’t be a jerk.

This community - !ChemistryVideos@lemmy.sdf.org - is exactly what it sounds like, a place for posting general interest videos about chemistry and closely related topics.

The rules are designed to encourage posting of videos that would be interesting to a layperson with an AP (high school) or undergrad understanding of physical sciences and a strong interest in chemistry. In other words, amateur chemistry videos are strongly encouraged, while videos about very narrow topics which require a PhD to understand are not encouraged.

YouTube has a great chemistry scene. It’d be great to have something similar on PeerTube someday, but we’ll start with what’s available. Amateur and professional content is on topic.

      eh, just crosspost! I mainly wanted to make a spot to share chemistry vids so people who wouldn’t likely engage with the topic in any other way can subscribe and hear about new ones :)
