Minecraft is something that had proven to be perennial by the time the movie was announced at least (it was in development hell too.) Labubus are blatantly a fad.

Yeah well, not the first time
In 83 or 84 in my stocking I got a stuffed Gonga (gorilla with a molded plastic face, hands, and feet) and my sister got some knock off panda abomination. It a was pink and white spotted thing with a plastic face like labubu, the smile was not as large or creepy, but the thing was unsettling none the less.
They’re Gachas. It’s literally gambling without the prospect of seeing a return on sunk cost. At best you might be able to sell a rare get to recoup some of the spending.
