Well yes, police don’t care about theft, unless the victim is a business. The police basically exist to protect capitalists and their interests, not us.

What very little they do for us, detering and solving murders and whatnot, is just a means to this end - business/capital in an area will suffer if there are murders.

Your house being burgled doesn’t affect anyone but you, so why should the coppers care?

    :-(

Not true! If you’re a member of the police, a close relative of the same, or anyone who can take legal retribution against the police farce or manage to make them look exceptionally bad in some way, then you’ll be cared about too!

From the title, I was expecting it to be “she said it was a specific person, and that was all,” but no - there’s evidence that the police first failed to collect, then failed to acknowledge after some was handed to them, and generally failed to do anything at all.

Police are just high-school dropouts living on welfare under the guise of “doing a job” because they drive or walk around all day. I guess that’s “earning a living”?

      ACAB.

Thankfully you’re not making a naive over generalization here, thinking that all police officers world wide are the same, have the same training, culture and standards. That would be a stupid to do.

It would show that (assuming you’re from the US) you have no idea that there are other countries out there with other standards, different methods, culture, rules, education, etc, and I guess you wouldn’t want to be THAT person, now would you?

There are counties, for example, where becoming a police officer requires higher education just to start, then it requires 4 years of training before you can call yourself a police officer. Want to get higher up, become an inspector or anything like that, would require an additional nlyears of training.

Just saying, that doesn’t exactly sound like “highschool dropout” to me, but I could be wrong of course.

Nothing what I’m saying is trying to defend this particular police force or these police officers in the article, not does it excuse US police insanity, or police brutality in general, before you try to go there.

This is just me trying to tell you that you need some nuance and reality in your life because as bad as those bastards are, you are on the opposite side of the horse shoe, and you’re not helping with dumbass comments like ACAB, as nice as it rolls off the tongue.

Well I suppose I’ve assumed “ACAB” is effectively interpreted as “American Cops are Bastards”. Obviously other countries do it far better, but it’s our reality over here. I’m sure there are numerous good apples here too, but they’re a consolidated force so it seems fair to judge them by the behaviours they show us as a group, generally.

I had pretty much the same experience with a burglary back in 2010. I told the police the identity of the person who had almost certainly done it, but - well, it was Christmas and the detective assigned to our case had gone on annual leave at that point, so… well, fuck all really.

      Same same

I heard a mate was going out on the piss, so I just asked him to keep an eye out for anyone selling an iPhone in a yellow case. It was stolen from my house the day before, 12 days before Xmas.

He rang me the next day and said he was offered said iPhone in the pub, and even went to their house where he saw more of my stuff.

Told the cops and they said they would have to talk to my mate. My mate is a bit dodgy and wouldn’t go near a copper, so they just ignored the lead I had for them and shrugged.

I nearly got my big mates together to go down there myself, but that’s vigilantism and I’m a shit legs.

Anyway, the cops were useless, and that was a decade ago, and it’s slid since then.

They only have enough funds and manpower to stop and search a limited set of public. They can’t even do much if they find something illegal during stop and search. Pathetic no matter how you look at it. Thanks, Tories!

Not nothing if you get murdered under a CCTV camera sure nobody will know who killed you but if you park in the wrong place at the wrong time you are 100% getting a ticket.

But seriously the tories gutted emergency services and slashed their manpower so they don’t have the reasources to deal with “petty” crime and what counts as “petty” now is quite broad.

This is the best summary I could come up with:

Ms Goode’s case comes as research commissioned by Panorama suggests police forces are facing an increased workload.

The independent criminal justice think tank Crest Advisory says England and Wales need an extra 18,000 officers just to keep up with population growth since 2010.

She gathered some footage herself and identified a former friend acting suspiciously outside her house - but Lancashire Police still did not question him or come back for the rest of the CCTV.

Lancashire Police says it deployed crime scene investigators, completed house-to-house enquiries and obtained CCTV footage before Sarah’s case was closed.

The police watchdog has told Panorama that officers are failing to get the basics right and that public confidence is at the lowest level he could remember.

With severity of crime and rising population figures factored in together, Crest has calculated that 114,000 additional officers are needed to meet demand in England and Wales.

The original article contains 858 words, the summary contains 150 words. Saved 83%. I’m a bot and I’m open source!

According to Crest, there are now just 3.88 officers for every 1,000 people - down from 4.42 in 2010.

And I’ll be those officers are under equipt compared to how they would have been in the past. It’s no wonder they’re just there to give it reference numbers so you can go to your insurance now.

I can’t believe people feel for the Tory austerity lies, then have continued to fall for their shit for a further decade.

The police officers we do have left are also stuck shuffling papers at the station because we’ve also lost 20,000+ police support staff.

Our voting system sucks, the media on the whole leans towards the right wing, and in general the population isn’t very politically informed / literate and is easily swayed by fearmongering and misinformation. Plus the good old fashioned selfishness of the people who are well off or comfortable.

In the last General Election (2019) it was pretty much about who could deliver Brexit. Boris campaigned on getting Brexit done no matter what, while the opposition leader Jeremy Corbyn couldn’t give a straight answer on his position (his base support were strong remain, whilst Corbyn himself is anti-EU so was in a bit of a pickle). So the Tories won many traditional Labour voters who wanted Brexit done.

Because they think austerity works. They’ve been making cuts across pretty much every department in the country ever since they came to power, way before Brexit.
