Given the setting of this comic (Some time after 2001), wouldn’t they have already known what happened to the WTC? And dude is using a corded, residential phone, so it couldn’t have been that long after it 9/11…

I don’t understand this weird Lemmy fascination with over-analyzing and breaking down shitposty jokes.

It’s strange that you don’t understand over-analyzing on Lemmy. It’s a fairly frequent occurrence and the act of participating here implies a willingness to subscribe to that particular culture a significant part of which is over-analyzing things. Perhaps if you could you’d prefer to reject the over analytical nature of the site but by becoming a member of the community you become a part of the culture wholesale. I guess in that sense if you don’t give in to that part of the culture you will in fact change it so maybe by you being here and not understanding it, over analysis becomes slightly less a part of the intrinsic culture of Lemmy.

(just in case. This is meant to be a joke)

I said I didn’t understand it, not that I was upset over it but okay.

I imagine, it’s part of the joke, that the phone looks old. Like, if the 50s called, it would have been a rotary phone…

It was inferred, since you typically say “nice , \ called, they want their \ back” in reference to some outdated, unfashionable item

Yeah, but that’s the joke. We all expected it to be that, but then our expectations were subverted.

Yeah, because the other dude’s clothing style and the phone point to it being set in the 90s. Maybe even the 80s. He’s receiving a call from the future. If you look up pics and vids of Chandler Bing in the 90s, you can see him wearing this type of outfit several times.

Right, but if you Google pictures of Alexander Graham Bell, you’ll discover what he looks like, this rendering your argument invalid. Now if you’ll excuse me, I have to pass a message to the front line via Morse code.

…if they called in 1999 and told us something will happen to the World Trade Center, probably it’s a magic future-phone and somebody should’ve put a stop to it before something happened. To the World Trade Center.

I over slept for work that morning and my mother screamed that I needed to get out of bed because the world was on fire.

I got my work clothes on in a minute because I was a teenage dirt bag, baby. By the time I got to the living room she was in tears because the Pentagon was going up in smoke.

I’m not sure if it was survival instinct or what, but I said, ‘Silly Government, tricks are for kids!’

I just remember her shouting, “This is serious!” As I dashed to my car.

The radio sucked that morning. Pretty much all the fm band was nothing but church talk. The walkman I had plugged into my stereo was off charge, so I had to listen to some Spanish sermon as I wondered if the Spencer’s I worked at was going to be blown up.

This has been a ‘9-11 Moment’, reply with ‘I was there.’ if you’d like to know more.
