I have one of these, it’s a Hario Skerton Plus Ceramic Coffee Grinder. What’s a sensible step up from this? It’s been a solid performer but my grinds are not always consistent, the adjustments seem like large steps and I have to count the rungs to know what setting I’m on (there’s no gauge).
Very happy to hand grind, I only drink a cup a day and appreciate taking a couple of minutes out the day to make something by hand.
Recommendations for someone buying in UK or EU preferable! Thanks for your help.
Update: after going through all the suggestions and the two videos I’ve settled on the Timemore S3. There were some European (Etzinger, Mazzer, Comandante, Kinu) and UK options (Knock) however they were in a price bracket I’m not ready for (£200+) and unfortunately the Knock ones do not have notched adjustment which I’d prefer (though I’ll keep an eye on them).
Of the others the 1ZPresso KP6 is a strong contender but I’m not big on the light/florals. The 1ZPresso K Ultra is great but not strong on pour over (according to the videos).
That leaves the Timemore S3 which stands out as a winner with the three strong personal reviews below. It also suits my flavour preferences according to the Coffee Chronicler’s video and the price seems much more reasonable at <£150. Thanks all for your contributions!
I went from that to a 1Zpresso JX. It’s such an amazing difference. Probably the best hand-grinder I’ve ever used. I found it on mad sale a year or so ago. I’d say it’s definitely worth the €50 or so that it costed, but I’d be hard-pressed to spend more than that… but only because it’s a lot of money and not because it’s not worth that.
