I had a Samsung S5 back in the day. That thing had a replaceable battery, an SD card slot, a 3.5mm socket, and one of those god awful wide-ass double USC mini sockets. It had no problem with water. I got that phone soaking wet many times. I showered with it. I literally washed that phone when its screen got filthy with my hair and face greases. It didn’t bat an eyelid. What I’m saying is it’s already possible to have fairly water resistant phones with a whole bunch of orifices. We don’t need to ditch the USB port to get there. Doesn’t make much sense to make general consumer phones more waterproof than that either.
Used the everliving shit out of that machine for many years. When it got a bit too slow, I flashed it with cyanogen, squeezed another year out of it. I don’t think I ever got as much value from a phone since then. I doubt it’s even possible now.
If they become waterproof I’m all for it
