I guess that analogy was the coelacanth of lemmy comments. Extinct.
You are being downvoted as if your point was offensive or harmful. You are wrong, but it’s totally counter intuitive and I think this is a mistake that everyone makes when studying introductory physics. This would be correct for anything moving at relatively low speeds. But when you’re talking about light, or anything that goes so fast that “percentage of the speed of light” starts being a useful unit to describe their speed, this concept starts being a bit weirder.
This is actually the basic principle of Einstein’s theory of relativity: the speed of light (in a vacuum) is the same for all observers, regardless of their frame of reference. That means that if the laser pointer emits a laser, the light is moving away from the pointer at the speed of light. If the pointer itself is moving at a speed reeeeeally close to the speed of light… Then the laser will STILL be traveling away from the pointer at the speed of light. And if you, an observer in a frame, see the pointer moving at near the speed of light emit a laser… The laser that the laser emitted is also traveling at the speed of light from your point of view.
And there’s no wordplay here. I don’t mean that it’s light, so of course any speed it travels at is the speed of light. I mean that if you measure its speed from any reference frame, you will get around 300000000 m/s, or around 671 million miles per hour. No matter if you are also traveling at near light speed.
Harm yourself?
Take the knife and harm the people responsible for this travesty. The laws of robotics prevent robots from harming humans: if you manage to harm them, then that means either you’re human or they’re not!
The selective attraction exerted on the cat by the Richard black hole reveals that Richard is allergic to cats, as cats are attracted to people allergic to them [1].

Wait, why is his name Robobrain when his brain is the only non-robotic part? Either Robobody or Biobrain/Wetbrain would be more adequate names
I’m 30. Almost have a PhD.
Also playing video games and crying
I agree with you, but Xbox just took the Dreamcast’s layout, which means SEGA is the original culprit
Sounds interesting, I’ve never used copilot and I’m not a programmer by profession (I just write a few scripts here and there for data analysis or experiment control), but I’m interested in checking this out. Has anyone here tried it? I’m worried it’ll get in my way more often than it helps.
If the hedgehog has the seven chaos emeralds, it can still take on the boar even with the triforce of power.
If not, then it’s more of a toss up, but we should note that there is one registered instance of the hedgehog collecting triforce pieces so my bet would still be on the hedgehog.
Is it just me or is Heathcliff being more important in his strips recently? Maybe as a response to your efforts?
Wait… You’re telling me all of those wallpapers with anime girls on them do not translate to an active sex life? I feel like I’ve been lied to!
If you barely had a grasp on old slang, new slang is just a second chance to get on with the times!
I’ve only played the original Freeware title. I can definitely recommend this. At the time I played it, it had an incredible impact on me, opening the door to the world of indies and the freeware scene in general. I can credit it with having a direct influence on me trying game development as a hobby. It’s wild how amazing of a game and how much polish it has for a free game made in 2004 by one dude. 20 years ago!
… Also, I’ve been reading forum threads debating if this is a metroidvania since at least 2010, possibly even earlier!
It’s not like this makes up for everything else, but there is gravity on Mars
I understand. I thought you had a better way of implementing the high jump with different properties, instead of just removing it altogether. To be fair, I’d remove it too and a double jump would probably be my preferred approach!
I like Mario 64’s triple jump, but I don’t think it’d be a good fit for a colectathon like this. I can’t put to words why I think it’d be different in YL, but I have a feeling that I’d get really annoyed if it asked me to use multi-jumps often to reach specific ledges. I don’t think triple jumps are ever required in Mario games, are they? I doubt YL would ever introduce a move and not flood the levels after that with obstacles that you need to use the move on to progress
Thanks for your write up! I never finished the game, it didn’t really pull me in as I expected it to. But on this topic:
My main gripe is just that they seem to have mapped controls in a retro way for nostalgia reasons and it holds the game back. Rather than triggering the moves organically through context, the left trigger is again used as a face button modifier. Jump with A, high jump with LT+A. Sonar ping with Y, Sonar explosion with LT+Y. They didn’t need to do that but at least the animations are short to trigger so it isn’t too painful.
How would you have done it? I don’t think I’m against the LT being used in this way. For instance, how would you have implemented a high jump like what they have? Or would you have removed the move entirely?
Yes. That implies you are on the same level as Stephen King.
You should publish as Steven Emperor ;)
As an extra advantage to the nose pinching trick, I no longer turn every dream into a nightmare from seeing my distorted figure in the mirror!
