Fuck AI@lemmy.world•AI slop mugs hitting the thrift store shelvesEnglish
4·4 days agoNooo, I was just in Goodwill yesterday and didn’t think to be on the lookout for slop!
They could just take a few humanities classes and think about them, but no, they want to do it the hard way.

41·10 days agoIf someone manufactured a knife that told schizophrenics they’re being followed and people are trying to kill them, then yeah. That knife shouldn’t be able to do that and the manufacturer should be held liable.

Fuck Cars@lemmy.world•One of the only cybertrucks I've ever seenEnglish
4·11 days agoYou would not believe how many of those are here in Los Angeles, with just the tiniest truck beds you’ve ever seen. I did once see one of those trying to haul a few pieces of lumber, and the angle it was jutting up at was pretty funny.

111·11 days agoYeah, it looks like shit. But it also can’t be taken out in the rain or through a car wash, falls apart constantly, catches on fire, and traps its users inside.

Gaming@beehaw.org•'Friendslop' dominated 2025 by proving time and time again that graphics are overratedEnglish
18·11 days agoI’ve heard it previously, the first time I couldn’t help but crack up because the term was so petulant and asinine. ‘They’re playing cheap games with low res graphics with their friends and having fun, someone make them stop!!’ is the vibe I get every time I hear it, and it’s still a hilarious term to me.

cats@lemmy.world•Do any of you actually call your cats by their names?English
4·11 days agoOurs is usually baby boy, horrible beast, buddy, or nutty buddy. If it’s his actual name, it’s usually because I’m gasping it out and scolding him for doing something naughty.

Hah! I meant spice-wise, but growing up I did have older members of my family that would eat baked sweet potatoes with nothing but butter. But they also grew up during the Great Depression and ate stuff like cottage cheese with peaches and drank straight buttermilk, so 🤷♂️

Comic Strips@lemmy.world•No sense in wasting itEnglish
241·14 days agoI’ll taste the difference, even if I don’t say anything. Sweet potato pie is tasty enough to eat with nothing but vanilla (although it’s better with more spices), pumpkin needs all the spice or it tastes like overcooked baby food. Sweet potato also has more carbs and fiber per 100 grams than pumpkin does, giving it a better mouthfeel and making it more satisfying to eat.
Thank you for coming to my TED talk.

No Stupid Questions@lemmy.world•What activity or pastime of yours is barrels of fun?English
5·16 days agoWhat’s fun is going to be individual, isn’t it? I absolutely love going to museums. Science, art, history, whatever. I live somewhere with a lot of museums, so I look into discount programs and plan day trips around seeing exhibits that sound interesting. Obviously that won’t work for you if you don’t care about museums or don’t have many nearby.
There’s nature everywhere, even in cities, and I enjoy using apps like Seek or Merlin Bird ID to help understand what I’m looking at. It’s fun to keep my eye out for new plant species, and helps me learn what’s around me locally.

There’s a non-zero chance it was a game someone he worked with just made. My dad used to work with a guy that would program playable text based games during his down time (this was in the 90s), he ultimately went on to work at an actual game company from what I remember.

Fuck AI@lemmy.world•Officials Deploying AI Surveillance Devices in School BathroomsEnglish
26·21 days agoWow. When I was in elementary school in the 90s we’d tell each other stuff when the teacher was out of the room, like that they would use the classroom intercom and just stay silent to listen to what we said about them. Except this one is real and in the fucking bathroom. Are they not worried some freak is gonna hack it to listen to teenagers peeing?

I often think about an Arthur C. Clarke book—I think Songs of Distant Earth?—that has a colony of humans that solves all the big debate questions facing their society anonymously through the internet, which has completely solved the problem of judging ideas based on who said them.
Bless the optimists.
