Two ram sticks are the best way to have the highest performance (2 16GB sticks are better than 4 8GB sticks). No one really wants to build a new PC with just 16GB of ram now, so people are looking for 32GB and 16GB sticks of ram. They also don’t want the slower ram, so they’re looking for 3,400+ mhz speed ram.

So for people wanting a gaming or video editing or ai system, no one wants the 8GB sticks of 2,400mhz ram sticks in your machines.

The demand has increased in ddr4 because it increased so much for ddr5. While all the data centers and ai bullshit needs the 5, it’s caused everyone wanting ddr4 to still need ddr4, and now people who wanted ddr5 to settle on getting ddr4 on the higher end speeds and capacitties.

DDR4 is currently like double the price is was 6 months ago.

I’ll keep my unkillable Gen 2 Prius. 281,000 miles on the odometer, original engine, replaced the hybrid battery a few years back with a brand new one from Toyota (that I installed myself after convincing a dealership to just sell one to me) and knock on wood, but that’s the last maintenance item I’ve even had to spend any money on.

Epic is in no position or standing to compete against valve. To be a monopoly, you have to actually own an overwhelming portion of the market you’re in.

Valve also can’t take much of a lower cut on game sales because their current cut is the market average and valve would get in legal trouble for monopoly practices and unfair competition because they’re already so much more popular than the few competitors they have. While I won’t defend that he could be much more altruistic with his money, but complying with different refund laws at a digital level is super easy to do. Even more so for Australia, since it isn’t like anyone bouncing between country borders all the time there.

Valve is going the route of not just selling this for VR, but selling it to play non VR games on as well. If there’s no eyestrain or latency issues it will be a good purchase for a lot of people…if the price is right.

No one wants apple products to game on, or their huge pricetag. No one wants quest because the hardware is locked down. This could be a great product to pick up if it works as well as is being reported so far

Also, they’re not pitching this off as just a VR headset. They’re pitching it as a private big screen you can regularly watch videos and play regular games on. While not anything new in that aspect, if it works well without eyestrain, many people will get it just for its non VR game use. Quest sucked because if it’s ecosystem. Valve is once again touting it’s hardware as actual hardware, with none of the lockdowns attached, and it will work with all the VR games from steam and other VR PC games, along with any steam games and other PC games.
