Probably not, but makes ya think. I also accept that I’m thinking about it from a heteronormative, sex as biological imperative for spreading genes POV - so limited and overall probably wrong.

I wouldn’t say it’s bad so much as it’s simplified and incomplete. Some of us cough develop defense mechanisms designed to keep other people away, and at one point it may have been for good reasons. Down the road, though, you find yourself keeping those defences when they no longer serve you, which isolates you from others.

For these folks, acknowledging that they’re doing this, finding ways to safely lower their guard, and slowly exposing themselves to more people and experiences can help with that loneliness.

This is the kind of thing I get from this image. But this situation does not address all causes or types of loneliness, just one possible factor.

Two choices:

1. Medical mask and sunglasses (preferably those boxy ones people wear over regular glasses). Few people question medical masks these days.
2. Embrace the lunacy, and wear whatever mask/facial covering you think is cool/funny. Life’s short and a lot of people would do well to embrace harmless weirdness.

It’s very much a different strokes for different folks kinda thing. People I know prefer LSD and other, closely related lysergamides because it gives a bit more of an energy boost - I’ve heard it described as shrooms with a shot of espresso. Others prefer shrooms because it’s a little more laid back feeling.

Granted, your set and setting is really going to set the tone for whatever psych you ingest. Things can go amazingly or very, very badly with either substance depending on your headspace and how you set yourself up/structure your environment for the experience.

Break falls are the only skill I’ve kept from my martial arts training, but it’s literally the most useful one.

Most settings, the key is paying attention to indicators of interest/disinterest. If someone isn’t engaging with you beyond grunts, looks visibly uncomfortable, etc. that’s your cue to gracefully exit.

This is the hard part for a lot of people, properly gauging interest after initiation and knowing when to move on. If it’s not intuitive, unfortunately there’s not much else you can do to improve this other than practice.

Sometimes you can find more casual philosophy-focused discussion/reading groups too - I know a few have a presence on Meetup in my area. They meet at a pub or something and discuss a particular topic for the evening.

If you are are doing any kind of learning (as a citizen or registered student) your local librarian, particularly your local academic librarian, is your best friend and you just don’t know it yet. Introduce yourself, and come with questions.

But don’t neglect your public librarians either - that light I saw in their eyes when asking about an obscure service they offered stuck with me.

It’s a term that’s taken on some additional baggage/meaning. Originally it simply meant someone who was involuntarily celibate - wants to have sexual relationships, but doesn’t. Now it usually refers to someone adhering to a kind of peculiar set of ideologies around that (see: social value theories taken to some often ridiculous extremes; good ol’ fashioned misogyny/perhaps misanthropy; etc.).

There’s a kneejerk reaction to incels in the latter sense because so much that comes out of that is pretty awful. That and it’s often folks who engage with the latter stuff who are more inclined to identify with the term incel - most others who just fit the former definition just say they’re single.

IMO the latter usage is just more proof that we are failing and continuing to fail men, badly, in terms of community and mental health supports.

I’d ask how you define evil in this case. To me, an act is evil when the net detriment to the planet and its contents (including humans) is greater than the net benefit it creates, and the actor pursues said act knowing this. I’d argue it scales with the nature and context of the act. It’s hard to say this isn’t real. But yes, we all have the capacity for evil, and also can be complicit in other evils by dint of normalized behaviours (without necessarily being ‘evil’ ourselves)

I do agree that an absolute Evil doesn’t exist, the same way an absolute Good doesn’t exist. But we’re a pile of writhing meat puppets on a moist, moldy rock - we don’t exist on that level in the first place.

True, but you can meet in the middle re: this kind of thing with the ring. Having established that it’s going to happen at some point, take a trip to a jewelers ‘for fun’. Pay attention to what she goes ‘oooh’ over - style, stone, cut, etc. Write this information down to search separately.

It’s a bit of a stereotype I suppose, but trust that your future wife knows what she’s doing on that visit (particularly if y’all don’t browse jewelry together frequently - it’s kind of an anvil of a hint). This way there’s still an element of surprise, but you’re not just picking something random in hopes it pleases.
