That’s by no means a routine upgrade though, the guy just “upgraded to” backports which you’re not even supposed to do. Not comparable to the soothingly boring apt upgrade of Debian stable.

TBH I don’t even remember the last time some actually important bug came out on the kernel, long gone are the days of ptrace-kmod.c and hatorihanzo.c

If you haven’t special requirements then just use Debian stable, and never be worried about an update again.

It’s hard to take iPhone longevity seriously though until they do something about the batteries.

True, the phones themselves are functional and updated for a long long time, but after a few years it’s unthinkable to go anywhere without a power bank and that’s a great motivator for throwing an otherwise perfectly good phone. If they actually cared they’d make the battery replaceable.

But to be honest, every time I’m watching a video on yourube with more than a hundred comments and any kind of political relevance, I just assume at least 90% of the comments are bots. Same goes for twitter arguments.

IDK man, I’ve had rather poor experience with extensions. At least in gnome they pretty much filled in for some feature that should have been there but it wasn’t hip enough for GNOME (ie systray).

Ever since gnome 3 came out I found myself time and time again in the loop where something is missing, I build myself some smorgasbord of extensions to make the experience the way I want it, then a new gnome minor is released and some of those extensions are now abandoned / incompatible with others / suddenly buggy / behaving differently so I have to start over. It’s not very different in kde, extensions get abandoned and break in there too, but I never had to have more than two at a time.

When it comes to DEs I’ve learned over the years to stick to the core as much as possible because extensions are just not reliable, which is also the reason why I don’t use gnome anymore.

I don’t think the analogy with IDEs really holds: language extensions in major IDEs are usually maintained with some degree of professionalism, for example the Ansible extension for vscode is maintained by Red Hat. It’s a very different ecosystem from the one made of pet projects started by people who one time felt something was amiss in their DE, and pray the gods they still have that opinion and care enough.

Edit: just to be clear I’m not dunking on this extension or extensions in general, I’m just explaining why somebody would want to avoid relying on them too much

Man I really wish all that conspiracy rambling was real. As misguided as it would be, it would show a ruling class with political direction and effectiveness. I’d be happier if that was the reality - even if everything you said was true - over the mindless chickens we have wandering around our collective political landscape.

Mate, I don’t have the resources to answer to all that. If after two and a half years of war you still believe the “nato provoked Putin” bullshit I don’t know what to tell you.

I cannot read Putin’s mind but I have read and listened to a plethora of explanations for the current state of affairs, from multiple POVs and to varying degrees of depth. Some of them make more sense, some of them less. The explanations you are bringing up (nato provoked, breach of minsk, defensive war, etc etc) are among those that makes the least sense under a bit of scrutiny.

I don’t want to have this debate under a fucking comic thread so I’ll disengage. I’ll just say that just because people you don’t like (government? newspapers? I don’t know) say something it doesn’t mean it is AUTOMATICALLY false and any other explanation is preferable. I know it’s boring, but maybe, just maybe, they are onto something once in a while.

Don’t trust them if you don’t want to, do your own research - but do it for real, not like the antivaxers. Maybe that propaganda bullshit you find more reasonable will appear for what it is.

War is beneficial for the 1% and there is no doubt about it. That doesn’t change anything that I wrote, and it’s not at all incompatible with Putin being an aggressor and a stupid asshat.

As someone put it: dictatorship is a job with amazing benefits, but a terrible retirement plan. Putin can never retire and chill on his yacht, he needed to be at war for his regime security.

He never meant to piss off the most powerful bloc in the world, he thought he could just snatch Ukraine and get away with it with a little frown from the west, like he did with parts of it before (Crimea, Donetsk, Luhansk), like he did with Georgia (South Ossetia, Abkhazia). He miscalculated Ukraine’s response, and the west’s.

He is not the first dictator who believes his own bullshit about the rest of the world you know? Do you think Hitler wanted to go to total war with UK, France, USA and USSR all at once? Or do you think he was secretly in cahoots with Churchill, Roosevelt and Stalin to have a nice little war together to enrich their 1% and historians are conspiring to hide this?

You could say that - they have been up to a few squabbles as of late, kerfuffles even.

I am sure it is nothing too serious, it will be over as quickly as it started and the region will soon be as peaceful as always.
