Legit, if you’d rather put in work to modify a street light and risk the consequences instead of putting up curtains, use old cardboard boxes cut in such a way that it drapes a long side over your house’s direction, but not long enough to impede light on sidewalks.

Less work, less cost, less chance of being arrested.

I do understand not wanting to have to use blackout curtains, as I like looking outside.

Personally I use a 100w led spotlight I made, and point it at the street light for a minute or so if I want it off. Works for a few minutes, at least.

I love when people loredump. After they’ve said their piece, I usually have to tell them I have absolutely no idea what they’re talking about since I’m not part of that particular niche Fandom but by all means keep telling me things about it.

So why exactly are you here, in a childfree community page, telling people in said community about how great children are? That’s a little weird, and a bit like someone here going to a school or daycare during pickup and telling all the parents how great not having kids is.

Did you check people’s comment and posting history to see if it’s their “whole personality” or did you just make a snap judgment based on a single meme?

I notice you posted a comment about knitting/crochet, is that your entire personality? What about that time you said Bangladesh was “crazy” for having deaths related to ship scrapping. Is your whole personality about ship breaking?

I think it’s weird to pass judgment based on people not wanting kids and being tired of other people telling us how great having kids is and we will regret it.

No joke, I’ve had people tell me I will regret transitioning because I won’t be able to “father children”, using that exact phrase.

I have had people telling me “you’ll regret not having kids when you grow up” all through my 20s, and now that I’m in my 30s I’ve only had more and more people ask me when my spouse and I will be trying for kids because “it’s almost too late”

Since medically transitioning, a disturbing number of people have decided to butt in and tell me I should be storing sperm “for when you decide to have kids” and if I don’t, then I won’t be physically able to have them.

I’ve even had a couple of people (mostly one specific person) telling me after I inform them I had a vasectomy over a decade ago and my spouse had a tubal ligation at least 5 years ago, that vasectomies are reversible and “it doesn’t have to be your wife” (my spouse is NB but seemingly nobody except the Trans people we know seem to remember that)

I find it funny that people with kids keep telling me specifically that I will regret not having kids and giving me their opinions, yet never once have I gone out telling new partners NOT to have kids.

Also hilarious is how people with kids get defensive about their decision and go on about how people without kids make it their whole personality.

And its always fun to guess if I’ll see “well you people are creepy for making this one page I have only just found and decided it’s all you ever talk about also here’s an anecdote about how much I totally love my kids and never think like this” type comments before opening the page.

And honestly with so many fascist governments pushing us to have more kids for their meat grinders, climate change making the planet hostile for life, and everything being more expensive, it’s a wonder anyone would voluntarily have children today.

I think they meant “why are you, as someone who enjoys having kids and wouldn’t give them up for anything and has no regrets, posting in a community whose entire point is for memes and discussions about not having kids”

Just go ahead and fiddle around with different US states or the country itself, and you’ll find out quite easily just how big the “united” states are.

Spoken like someone who has absolutely no idea what it’s like to try and organize people scattered across a fucking continent.

Specifically a continent with very poor access to public services that would make organization easier.

A continent where even speaking out can cost your your job and therefore Healthcare.

A continent where your neighbor might be someone who agrees with you, or they might blow your head off because they thought you might vote for a lefty.

A continent where the government has already threatened to murder any citizen they want just for fighting back against their authoritarian boot. A continent where your closest regional capital might be hours away.

My state is larger than most European countries. The logistics of organizing real action on this scale is insane. And a lot of very rich people have spent a lot of money for a very long time to make sure it’s as hard to do anything about their tyrannical bullshit as possible.

The best most of us can do is vote, try and organize like-minded people locally, and survive the next week.

… Is there a metric vs imperial way of counting population? Here I was thinking math was supposedly a universal thing…

If you’re a licensed driver, you know how to drive. If people are being given licenses without properly making sure the licensee is both qualified and mentally capable to drive and know what responsibilities that entails, then we shouldn’t be letting them drive and that’s a failing on society.

At least where I’m from, unlicensed minors aren’t allowed to drive without a licensed adult present.

And if you don’t trust your unlicensed teenager to not steal your keys and go on a joyride, the I can’t help you because you need a professional family therapist to work through issues.

People in construction know what they’re doing and in general know what they’re talking about.

Unfortunately, that excellently constructed home they spent so much effort on will still be sitting there in 5, 15, maybe 50 years from now. And all that time it’s definitely not getting all it’s proper maintenance, and will slowly be dropping in quality.

I doubt these buildings would go up hindenburg style, but after a decade or two of being lived in, fires will not be as easy to put out in a home like this.
