Wow… I dont want to see any of those potential movies you just pitched.

Dude… That was annual, too. These modern day 8-episode shows will have YEARS between seasons. Like, motherfucker, half your scenes are green screen in a big sound studio – what the fuck is taking you so long?!
The trick is that so much is tied to our employment, including health care. Wanna start a ruckus and get fired? Cool, you’ll lose your health insurance and the cancer will kill you. It’s not like the company down the street is any better.

Thanks for taking a second to research that. Maybe my search results are skewed for some reason because i double checked before posting that comment. Weird. I’ll think about it more.

Everybody always goes on and on about how great linux is for gaming pcs these days. I recently poked around online to see if my rtx5070ti would be supported and found a bunch of people facing issues, and that Mint and Ubuntu weren’t recommended.
I dont want the AI nonsense, and Windows/Microslop blows, but I want my new gaming laptop to work correctly for several years given the money I spent on it. I can’t see making the switch when the gpu support is so convoluted.
Ive had many Linux machines in the past, so that bums me out.
Edit: someone should make a webpage that automatically reads the hardware and specs of your windows machine and then creates a table of suggested distros. That table should also include “what you’ll lose” that shows which features will become lost or finicky. And it should also include direct download links.
If the goal is to have morons like myself adopt it, it needs to be basically fool proof and easy. Linux is much better and easier than it was in 2003, but that doesn’t mean it’s two-click easy.

Thanks!

Half inch thick. Cuts by scoring a couple few times with a utility knife. After installing, I had to move my line 9/16" away from the dartboard.
I laid out the fabric and got it tight with wood working clamps. Cut my board to size, sprayed the board with spray adhesive and laid it gently on the fabric. Then i folded and cut the excess fabric around and stapled down the back.
Im sure there’s a cheaper material than Homasote that would work, but my board hangs on a door that goes into the living room, so the sound barrier was a nice bonus for me.

Really ends up being an allegory for life, eh?

I just can’t imagine how hard life would be to be illiterate. And me knowing me, id take it upon myself to learn to read if the educational system and my parents had failed me – I truly believe that. Is illiterate/partially illiterate a result of low IQ in every instance, or whats going on there?

The problem is our brains are now conditioned to want quick hits of entertainment and multitasking so businesses can cram as many adverts into us as possible. As a longtime adult, I feel it. Even with feature length films, not just books. I cant imagine how programmed the “youths” are, having grown up in this short attention span world of today… Its gotta be even harder for them to fight it and read a book or watch a movie from before 1996.

Just force yourself to do it for one hour twice a week, and it should spark something. It does for me.

Read “Project Hail Mary” … It was an easy, quick read, and really enjoyable.
“And then there were none” (formerly “Ten little indians”) by agatha christie is a another easy, enjoyable read.
There are book communities on the Fediverse that could help motivate you to read.

I’m all in on no limits for free speech. The government’s job is to provide services, not determine and police morality. And hate speech does not have a concrete definition, so it’s a moving target (the government could define talking shit about Republicans as hate speech and make it illegal, for example). I don’t like Nazis or racism or homophobia, but i like the idea that you are legally allowed to say nazi, racist or homophobic shit and I can hear it and choose to shun you.
I’m glad Canada is there for you with their rules if that makes sense to you. Not everybody has to agree with no limits on free speech – plenty of places to live with mostly free-ish speech laws.

Is that a fact? Well, maybe i’ll give that a shot if it’s easy enough. Thanks for the heads up.

Ubuntu is what I was endeavoring to install.
I googled all sorts of things to no avail. Now, software solutions seem moot because it wont power on or even charge.
I should google “how to charge a laptop battery when it’s removed” or “do new laptop batteries come pre-charged” … I feel like if I can get some juice, i can reset the bios to default and hopefully undo my power issue. Then, i can start this whole thing over again with extra caution.

Man… I get it. I’ve changed at least five windows machines to Linux in the past. This past fall, I was switch my HP spectre to Linux and bricked the fucking thing.
All of the security windows shit meant a bunch of bios changes, then out of nowhere it wouldnt charge the battery.
No idea how to fix it now that the battery and/or laptop won’t recognize the power plugged into any of the usbc ports. Ive tried different chargers, different outlets, and leaving it plugged in for 24 hours, but no life at all. No power means I cant restore to default bios, and Linux wouldnt install because once I was done fucking with the security, i didnt have enough battery to complete the install.
It’s fucking embarrassing.
I then gave up and upgraded to a gaming laptop with a 5070ti, but I’d love to resurrect that old one if anybody has any tips.

I still use ME. ¯_(ツ)_/¯
I’m pretty boring. I like depth of writing, artful cinematography, expert acting all the way down to two-line roles, least amount of cgi/green screen as possible (fake fire doesn’t look real, and cgi car chases look cheesy af), not the same actors ive seen in stuff for the past 20+ years (but i do like famous actors who absolutely slay a completely new type of role for them – like Jim Carrey did in Truman Show), fantastic dialogue that doesn’t spoon feed exposition and subtext, skilled editing that makes the aforementioned cinematography serve some subtext, and directing that can masterfully weave it all together. Ya know – a quality film.
