Edit a file, writing a quick shell script or whatever in the terminal. Nano is great. I don’t see any use in learning vim or emacs. If I need something more I’m going use a gui editor anyway.

I use ardour as DAW, but only for recording on Linux. It’s also available for macOS and windows. So you can check if it fits your work flow.

I mostly only use Linux, but sometimes you just need a program with out support. In my case it’s sometimes qlab, Linux show player is great(and I have used it for many shows). But it’s not feature compatibel with qlab

Even if something like proxmox or a Debian install with docker is more customizable. It’s a steep learning curve.

But isn’t something like truenas scale a option? I run Emby(as my media Server) and the arr’s on it. All the apps are already in the “software store” including plex. And setup of the arr’s is just the same as normal. All installs are basically automatic.

I easy passthrough my intel gpu in the config page on the webportaal, but don’t how easy it is for Nvidia or amd. Especially with Nvidia due to drivers. But maybe someone here knows?

2025 is going be the year of cheap hardware. A lot of people will just buy new computers/laptop’s.

I’m helping some people already with setting up Linux. But most average users will not set up Linux. It’s just to scary.

I think that in the Android kernel (for your device) there are binary blobs for hardware drivers. Which are not in mainline and most of the times not even available anywhere.

Of course don’t know how pricing is in your area. But here Wii’s are pretty cheap. 30/40 Euro’s with a 1 or 2 Wii motes. I even picked up one for free (hardware and software worked, but needed some cleaning on the outside).

If you are okay with piracy a Wii is really easy to hack. With lots of homebrew. So if you don’t mind having original disc’s it is pretty cheap.

If you want something more powerful there is of course the Wii u. Wich can run Linux with homebrew. But they are more expensive.

However seems you already have other plans now.

As someone how yesterday got home 3 pallets and 4 pallet collar’s in a Twingo. I disagree.

You don’t want to do that every day for work, but in a pinch small cars fit enough. Need more room for a project at home? Get a cart. My Twingo can tow a light cart. That’s 99% of all use cases for me.

Need even more rent a van. We did that with moving houses and it fits so much more then a pickup.

I really think 99% of people will be fine with a small car and a hinge. You get pretty good mileage and a small car that is not a dead trap for everybody outside. Even small ev’s are great for that.

I know some Linux users trash talk Nvidia on Linux like it just a piece of shit. But it’s simply okay. Don’t get me wrong it’s not great. But it works.

But if you have a simple setup it will probably work. My SO PC has a rtx 2060 and one monitor and it works fine.

You can of course always dual boot. I still have windows for VR gaming and just in case. I do recommend a stable os with Nvidia (especially if you just starting out with Linux). Something like pop os. Don’t go with arch just for the meme.

With dual booting you can try Linux and test if it’s okay for you. If not just give the disk space back to windows. If not great keep using Linux.

Just ordered some boards a week ago for meshtastic. Maybe I can find some people in the wild.

If in the future it ever gets good support for gui’s and is stable. For sure gone try Qlab.

It’s simple the best show control software I tried yet. But for now I will be using Linux show player or borrow a MacBook.

Just use KDE connect (it’s also available on windows). Just open your file browser and select the last screenshot on your phone. (It mount your phone as removable media)

It’s all local and you don’t have to send any extra info to Microsoft as added bonus.

All this new and fancy stuff is already solved on Linux for a long time and on windows long before Microsoft “invented” it. By great free and open source projects.

The 2 times (living not with my parents anymore) I had now electric power unplanned was of course when it was cold. However the fancy central heating running on gas was also not working. As the main unit also needed electric power.

So I could still cook my food but that’s was it. No heat. But that being said in my entire life we lost power (including as a kid) maybe 5 times and only for a couple of hours. In 33 years

I now have a heat pump and for cooking induction. So in a power outage I need to grab some camping gear. But I will probably survive for a couple of hours without heat.

But if you have regular power outages you and everybody in your country should probably vote and make your voices heard. If you live in a country where most people can afford heat pumps, the government can afford fixing the power grid.

You can still own and buy appartements in most places in the world. Then there are many forms of social housing.

Rent to own is also a possibility but not seen in most countries.

Seems your problem is not ownership but landlords.

Some countries in Europe have the right to roam on any land. State owned and private owned. (Maybe more countries somewhere else have it to but I don’t know)

It does not need to be so terrible. In some places it just is because of profits
