Oh, I’m not saying take them to group therapy. It’s just that it happens a lot in that setting.

Two words: Group. Therapy.

I’m immensely grateful for the help and support it’s provided but holy hell this happens a dozen times a session.

There’s no reason to try and appear strong and “well functioning” towards your doctor like you are probably used to doing for everyone else.

Just wanted to add onto this something I only recently found out about myself, and I can’t imagine I’m alone in this. There really isn’t a “mask off” version of “me,” because I started so early and it’s been so long (I’m in my 40s). I basically grew around the mask. When the mask is gone, it’s shattered. What’s left of “me” at that point is just a quivering pile of trauma, repression, guilt/shame, and maladaptive coping skills. There’s no in-between, just high- and non-functioning.

Yes, I am in therapy working on it. Double yes, it makes it difficult for anyone to believe that there’s anything amiss until I break. Tis no fun.

it would be amazing if the god of that religion would occasionally pop onto the planet and remind everybody that they exist, maybe give us the bread and circuses show to catch us back up, maybe throw out a couple of worldwide hey I forgive everybody’s and then pop back off just to remind us.

A thousand years without a reappearance of the God of all gods is a long time to keep the torch burning.

I appreciate all of the discourse. But I would like to clarify that the OP clearly states that one’s Smash main is how they are in the sheets. As someone who does not play Smash, that means I do not exist in the sheets. Whatever the proper terminology is, fair is fair, and I accept my fate.

Does the velocity of the earth around the sun enter into it if the projectile doesn’t come anywhere close to leaving earth’s gravitational pull? When I said “at the sun” it was just a direction. A gesture towards the spirit of the original “into the sun.” They won’t reach it. They’ll just be a splat mark [insert parabola math here]-ish meters away.

If the idea is to be rid of the person completely, we don’t need to fire them into the sun. Or launch them out of the solar system. They don’t even need to reach earth escape velocity.

Just launch them at the sun. Use whatever method you like. Just get them high enough that after gravity starts to overpower acceleration, there is no chance for survival. Boom! No more person. For the most part.

My old car was that way. I remember a friend climbing in for a ride and being so embarrassed that the back seat was full of empty beverage bottles. When I finally got a new car, I told myself “no more.” 18 years later, the car looks its age on the interior but it’s not full of trash.

My desk, on the other hand, is still just piles of stuff loosely organized by “newest on top.” 😒
