Me as a vampire and also Marvel’s The Thing: “It’s hemogobblin’ time!”
I like knitting, math, and uplifting the proletariat.

Oh what a cool concept! I definitely have some to contribute
I don’t really understand this stuff super well, but… I suspect what it means is that Google can track you while google maps is open, BUT since it doesn’t have access to the rest of your phone, they’ll have no idea who you are anyway?
If I’m understanding correctly, this sounds just about exactly how GrapheneOS works by default. All GPlay apps work and have notifications, but are sandboxed.
Definitely both, since a lot of people (myself included) don’t have anything resembling a good local landtrust. Evety tiny bit of park/public land/etc near me is like 99% amur honeysuckle, garlic mustard, and lesser celendine. None of the people ostensibly responsible for taking care of said land seem to care… 😭
A combination of SearXNG and Stract, for the most part. They’re definitely not perfect (yet), but they mostly get the job done! And I think they both have a lot of cool filters and refinement settings that I haven’t even taking advantage of so far.
For niche stuff it seems like a lot of hyper targeted search engines are popping up, like Sepia Search for PeerTube.
My library has a lendable “Ultimate Screwdriver Kit” that has every bit size and type I’ve ever heard of, security Torx, pentalobe, oval, gamebit, spanner, etc etc. Also a bunch of different styles of bit holder, and a bunch of attachments like angle adapters, depth setters, torque limiters, etc. Only tangentially relevant I guess… but if you run into a problem like this again, check your local library to potentially avoid having to buy obscure bits online!
The more to hug you with! 🥺
Why are people afraid of house centipedes? They already ARE cute! It’d be one thing if they were at least somewhat willing to bite you, like some spiders, but they won’t. They’ve got the best eyesight of any centipede, which inadvertently gives them really cute little eyes too.
Whoaa, awesome!!
Pennsylvania, U.S.A. I hear it’s a fairly common policy here but does vary from provider to provider. As I understand it, most areas in the U.S. have at most 2 ISP companies to choose from, and many only have 1. So they can kinda set whatever BS policies they want.
That’s what I’ve been wondering, like can I just do it anyway? I have Verizon FiOS gigabit, for reference. If they really just don’t care then I don’t mind violating TOS at all, but I wasn’t sure if they do or not
I’ve heard of options to get around the lack of static IP, but will something like this also keep my ISP off my back about hosting? If so I’m onboard!
I was afraid that might be the case… Definitely pretty messed up, but with the state of ISPs around here it’s not surprising either. This guide is super awesome though, I’ll use it if I ever get a chance to!
I would really like to mess around with self-hosting someday, but I live in a residential area and those sort of shenanigans are explicitly banned by my ISP. Is there anything someone in that position can do?
I seem to have the opposite reaction, I loathe the Charmin bears more than nearly any other ad in recent memory.
This is so depressing… I’d been seeing it in effect but I didn’t know all the context. We need more and better alternative search engines, like Stract.
EDIT: Actually, are any of the searXNG instances including Stract yet?
Ooooh including the keyboard?? I’d really like that.
The reason you can’t afford food is because precariousness is baked into the system, it’s a necessary component to force people to participate in capitalism largely against their will, whether they realize it or not. So, in that sense, surviving in any other way than by selling your labor is at least a little revolutionary, isn’t it?
