I got my BS in CSci about 15 years ago and it was 100% about programming in java. We didn’t learn a fucking thing about hardware and my roommate was an EE major and we had none of the same classes except for calculus.
By the time I graduated java was basically dead. Thanks state college.
I truly hate modern windows but this isn’t the issue I’d choose to illustrate that. I recently installed Fedora for a few weeks and one of the first things I wanted to do was change the wallpaper. Turns out there are 3 completely different places you must go to change desktop wallpaper, lock screen wallpaper, and whatever the other one is. Pretty poor design.
I ended up going back to windows because there were laptop-related functions that I just could not get to work on Fedora.

Before the pixel existed I owned a Google Nexus 5 4 which was manufactured by LG and to date that was the worst phone I’ve ever owned. I guess my point is it doesn’t matter who is manufacturing the hardware; if Google is involved it’s gonna be junk.
Edit: it was a 4 not a 5 but either way it was such an awful experience I’ve never bought another piece of Google hardware since
but they pollute the night sky visually and that’s nearly as bad.

Whoops, I was actually using Fedora. I had to go check the kde website, as that is where I got it from and thought it would be weird if they recommended something so out of date.
I just did a fresh install of windows 11 last week, after my attempt to switch to Plasma on Debian Fedora did not go very well. While it’s absolutely true that some de-bloating must be done right after install, it took me like 15 minutes. I spent at least that long just finding the three different goddamn places I had to go to change the wallpaper in Plasma.
