There’s a bunch more repos you can find online, but I’ve always enjoyed having these enabled. Additionally, there’s the Aurora Store from F-Droid, which allows anonymous access to the Play Store. There’s also Obtainium, which will directly access developer’s GitHub/GitLab/Codeberg/SourceHut repos as well.

I’d recommend KDE over GNOME, especially if you’re coming over from Windows. My take on Linus’s move is he’s tinkered with Linux 5+ days a week for ages, so GNOME makes more sense. But as a nerd who doesn’t work in tech, I love KDE as I can tinker until I’m content and changes are just made in settings. Either way, I’d say finding the Desktop Enviornment you like is more important than the distro!

I prefer Fedora over Bazzite as it gives you more control, but this also means it’s easier to break. Bazzite is an immutable distro, whereas Fedora uses the traditional mutable root filesystem. But despite the difference, Bazzite uses Fedora Atomic as it’s base OS.

Just as a fun little factoid, Linus Torvalds runs Fedora and while he was using KDE for a while, he switched to GNOME as he felt it required much less fiddling around with than KDE.

It could be copper, barium, and/or boron, as all of these burn green. Copper tends to be more blue green, with copper chloride burning an emerald green. Barium is often a pale green and a boron flame will have a green hue as well.

Well ya, you need at least two NICs to properly setup a firewall. Additionally, since NICs are the most crucial piece of hardware for routers and firewalls, it’ll only be as good as the hardware it runs on. Older NICs lead to regular crashes and/or slow network speeds. So swapping the original NIC out and adding another is VERY typical when repurposing old PCs as a router. The most common options for NICs I’ve seen are the Intel I350-T2 and I350-T4. Ironically, they cost about as much as a decent router, but going this route actually puts you in control of your home network!

Yep, but unfortunately it’s not always as straight forward as it may sound. Plus, with routers becoming more difficult to acquire, it’ll only get harder and harder to pull off. But there’s OpenWRT and dd-WRT that work with a pretty decent range of routers as well as ASUS Merlin for many ASUS routers. Then, if you want to get nerdy with it and build your own router from an old computer, there’s OPNsense and pfSense. Eventually it’ll come down to these two if the ban is longterm and you want any semblance of obfuscation online…
