2·1 month agoShould a program like that be initiated, they will admit that they are edgelords / demagogues and they don’t actually believe in any of this (the NK stuff in particular is strong evidence that this is all online roleplay).

73·1 month agoA democratic society? Since when does a democratic society have a leader for life and organises mass killings and torture of citizens?
Iran is aiding russia in its genocidal imperialist invasion of Ukraine, or does that not count?
Is this a satirical comedy account? A parody of “Lemmy leftists”?

61·1 month agoI am referring to the use and marketing of Grok for making nude deepfakes and CSAM.
Further in this thread you claim that people are allegedly detached from reality. The reality of the matter is that Apple’s app store policy is not consistent and there are special rules for certain entities.
Surely CSAM generation and involuntary nude deepfakes are a bigger deal than piracy, I think an average person on the street (in any country, doesn’t have to be the US) would agree with me.
I also don’t see where judges come into play? Has Rave been sued in court?

1·1 month agoFor certain batch uses cases, it’s still the simplest option. yt-dlp is definitely the most powerful, but for me personally, I sometimes get bogged down in the CLI UX when I am doing something non-standard (I’ve “automated” standard use cases via a WezTerm “toolbox”).

6·1 month agoI am glad I am using the unofficial portable build from videohelp.com (a site I’ve been using for what seems like 20+ years):
https://www.videohelp.com/software/JDownloader
jDownloader is a powerful tool (although its coverage scope is weaker than yt-dlp and even the Video DownloadHelper extension for FF), but the organization that makes it seems a bit sketchy. I was never able to access their “no adware in the installer” build on the official site.

3·1 month agoI am curious what do you see as being disease? What’s going on in the US seems like a pretty typical oligarch takeover of political parties, judiciary and media (this is not even something unique to the US, can and does happen in many places).
Solving the disease of course depends on the given local context, but more often than not you will have to prosecute oligarchs in addition to a broader package of anti-corruption and judicial reforms.

9·1 month agoNo need to shoot him, we just need an independent court to put him on trial for enablement of the Rohingya genocide and knowingly gaining $14 B in commissions from fraud (while developing a “playbook” to claim that this was legal).
Don’t even need to shoot him, it would be much better to give him 50 year community service as a junior janitor on the Rohingya refugee camp on the island of Bhasan Char should he be found responsible. If he is too good for that, than he can do 50 years in prison instead.
This should also apply to any other senior executives involved in these two cases.
And these are just two cases, there are definitely other, less well known, “regional” cases involving Meta goons and Zuckerberg.

101·2 months agoI’ve been looking into non Google/Apple smartphone alternatives in a serious way since Google set a path to abandon sideloading (it’s happening, they will use a phased approach) as I use a lot of open source apps and I avoid Google Play whenever possible.
For whatever reason it seems Pine Phone is often very difficult to get up and running, this is of course just anecdotal evidence. I actually heard about Pine a long time ago when evaluating their Rock series SBCs; they looked good on paper, but practical implementations left much to be desired.
I am personally saving up for Jolla phone:
https://commerce.jolla.com/products/jolla-phone-sep-ii-2026
I want to get the 12/256 variant, so that works out to €800+.
Pricey considering I’ve been getting mid-range devices ($450 absolute max) for the last 10 years; but this seems like the most user friendly option for a phone that doesn’t run on a US-based software platform.

And do they expect people to carry a second phone or to switch during an update cycle?
Are they really sure that text (or even voice) input into an LLM would be faster for initiating common tasks used on smartphones (messaging, video, social media etc.)?
