You’re implying I am in need of security (I am not), and that security without AI is not achievable. I say hogwash if the user is willing to make adjustments to their digital hygiene.

Fuck AI@lemmy.world•Linux kernel goes full AI slop code, hides chatbot commits
5·15 days agoThis exactly! I don’t understand how one would let an LLM touch their passion projects. I don’t mind someone quickly slopping together a little python script for something, but I would never let it touch my babies. It’d be like buying a self-assembling lego set. Sure the end result is the same, but is the end result why someone buys a lego set?
A better tomorrow starts with YOU.
Me personally, I’d get a burner smartphone in a drawer just for banking that is on airplane mode 24/7 except when I need it for banking and use a dumbphone for everything else. Also, I run linux and I have strict control over my router and I have ZERO subscriptions and creditcards. It’s not much but it’s something. Beats blindly rimming apple and alphabet.
This mentality is so gross. “Well might as well roll over and get pounded in the A by big corpo! what else am I going to do, right? Hehe!”

Linux@lemmy.ml•Linus Torvalds Working On A Hefty Linux Kernel Improvement With Claude Code
21·18 days agoI personally -do- think copyright shouldn’t exist. But it does (for Marvel or whatever), but not for GPL licensed projects once it is encoded in a matrix, and that’s pretty messed up. “Loki is a copyrighted Marvel character, I can’t create a new, full-length story using him as the main character.”, Yet if I ask it to write a text editor based on GNU Emacs it has very little problem doing so (edit: and technically failing, but still).
The linux kernel is compromised. Lets use NetBSD!
The few devices I have that do connect to the internet are turned off 95% of the time, my router is turned off 90% of the time. My laptop has internet disabled through hardware switch most of the time. The internet connection I do have is incredibly slow (but enough) and download stuff I need in chunks (mostly documentation and movies and whatever) I run NetBSD on an encrypted drive. Most of the data on it I would want to protect is programs and poetry I write and art I create, and maybe some budgeting documents, but I wouldn’t exactly have a crisis if it somehow ended up in someone’s hands. You’d need to be a pretty damn good hacker to get in here, and even if you’re inside getting stuff back is very slow and sporadic. I mean, I’m sure it’s still possible, I’ve heard stories of cops getting data through wall sockets measuring the power rate, but I don’t feel the need to apply slop-heavy patches.
