You can blame the sugar cartels all you want, The truth is if you’re an American, you finance this shit through your taxes. Corporations suck, but what sucks more is that people don’t realize they help pay for their own slow demise in the name of profit.

Impossible how?! There are easy free streaming sites out there, granted do not enter without Adblock on full. Shit, there’s a site that aggregates the free streaming sites and keeps an active list. And then the ever more concise solutions that programmatically download in the background, many of them end in ‘arr’, all from torrents and newsgroups.
Never underestimate motivated humans.
For some reason you just explained the probability of the big bang. Some idiot made a wish, and poof, new universe.

Technology@lemmy.world•Homeland Security has reportedly sent out hundreds of subpoenas to identify ICE critics onlineEnglish
661·23 days agoFuck ICE and the little dick Donald Trump. Arrest everyone with proven ties to epstine, and destroy the checkbooks of every single billionaire by taxing them.
Signed pretty much EVERY FUCKING MENTALLY SANE AMERICAN.
Linux needs to be a Canadian goose. Those cobra chickens are just fine when you let them do their thing and ignore all the shit left behind cause you’re not sure it’s important to the planet, but the moment you start to mess with it and you don’t know what you’re doing they will fuck you up!

Technology@lemmy.world•Comcast keeps losing customers despite price guarantee and unlimited dataEnglish
46·1 month agoMaybe, just maybe, Comcast should have spent all those government subsidies to update its infrastructure to full fiber and not bullshit like packet shaping, inspection and throttling to improve its bottom line and stop customers from using to the fullest extent the very thing we were paying for.
Before I moved, the local government subsidized fiber came into my neighborhood in 6 months (I was pretty far out there in the burbs) and I had 4gbit fiber for $80 a month compared to the forced triple play package I was locked into so I could have the fastest speed from Comcast (800mbit/30mbit) for astounding $350 a month. Top that off, I had a data cap I nearly exceeded monthly of 1tb and that cost and additional $50 for “unlimited“.
So good riddance Comcast/xfinity.

I think my message was more or less, stop worrying about the price of the pitchforks. Just take them because if don’t fix this soon, history will see this as the time we failed to rise up against fascists because we couldn’t afford pitchforks as an excuse.
Folks, I’d like to remind every that history is written by the winners.

Fuck AI@lemmy.world•AI went nuts on my website and generated a $155 excessive bandwidth billEnglish
14·2 months agoI ran a small hobby site that generated custom lambda to make a serverless, white label “what’s my ip” site. It was an exercise in learning, that was repeatedly beaten in by OpenAI. robots.txt was useless and cloudflare worked wonders after I blocked all access to the real site for all ips but cloudflare.
Cost was near $1000 for just 2 weeks of it repeatedly hitting the site and I wish I got credit.
I mean, as a bald man I no longer need to answer the question “does the carpet match the drapes?”. Solving problems, the best way.
You know you can just compost it, no need to eat something bad for you.
You really should eat that banana before it goes bad. I see spots on it and one area looks soft and bruised.

Programmer Humor@programming.dev•Op doesn't have time for interviewsEnglish
5·2 months agoI’ve walked out of interviews that had these popular puzzle questions in the 00s. The company you’re interviewing for is not testing you for your job, it wants a corporate drone that is ok with bureaucracy and can navigate the red tape they’ve put in place.
Really a waste of time, but if I run into this at my age now I ask if they can tell me how their company is making something for the betterment of human kind.

Capitalism… At some point people need to realize they are working to make others richer. From the products you buy to the products your company makes, just stuff designed to break and not worth spending on. Even new houses today have a shortened life. Anyone buy one recently and see the contract term estimated life of the house is about 60years?!? Yep folks, the house you’re dropping 500k+ on it expected to last about 60 years.
This might be a left vs right comic, but the issue doesn’t matter in the end because capitalism is going to fuck us all over.

Fuck Cars@lemmy.world•Pretty much every day someone parks their car on the tram tracks and blocks our city's tram network from operatingEnglish
4·5 months agoAudi seems to have done similar. I have a Q6. It’s been in the shop more than my garage. Had to beg them to get an older q5 loaner cause they kept giving me Q6 loaners which has the same issues. Road noise, shitty charging, last week it just errored and told me to pull over. I had to exit the vehicle for 20 min while it “reset”.
Add that is a privacy nightmare in the USA… next car won’t be a German car made in the last decade.

I had this box that carried/moved from 1996 - 2016 (when boxes weren’t cheaply made) that had every cable from scsi, power, ps, usb and more. I can count on one hand the 3 times I needed something from it. I moved with it 5x between 2 states and apartments and a house, and when I moved it the last time from my basement office to my upstairs office, I decided to turn those cables into money (copper). I never looked back because I found myself being lazy and searching Amazon for a 3$ cable.
I shall live with this tech nerd shame, but honestly I sold everything to move to Spain, so whatever. Heh.
