Conservatives are afraid. They (at least the professionals and the GOP as an organisation) are well aware that they are on course to get irrelevent in the future. Not only are their politicians getting older, their voter base is getting older and shrinking. So the try everything in the book to stay relevant: Gerrymandering, reducing access to the voting process fro people who are unlikely to vote for them, etc. And as we all know, fear, or worse, existencial dread, leads to hate for the other side, the group of people seen as their very threat to their existence.

They are basically cornered rats, clawing and biting the pest control man.

I’ve seen a VHDL implementation of the Z80 on the net. It is so old, it’s last fixes were from 19 years ago…

A few years ago, I saw a cheap GSM adapter for a PC for e.g. emergency messages of the server. It was cheap, as it only supported 3G. Luckily, I checked availability of 3G before I bought it, as it would have been a doorstopper here.

Uh, I’ve been present when such a thing happened. Not in the military, though. Guy should install driver on a telephone system, despite not being a software guy (he was the guy running the wires). Result: About as bad as expected. The company then sent two specialists on Saturday/Sunday to re-install everything.

My answer: “I don’t play Windows”.

One of the most common problems of government or other big organisation software is that they don’t scale, either “not well” or “not at all”.

Some guy hacks up a demo that looks nice and seems to do what customer wants, but then it turns out a) that it only allows for (number of open ports on one machine) users at the same time, and b) it only works if everything runs on one machine. Or worse, one core.

Good. Lock them up and throw the key in the gutter.

It is not the “free” in entertainment. I have no problems paying for a proper streaming service. It is a service, after all, and the people who made the content deserve to be paid.

BUT: I can understand that people turn to piracy when the quality of the product (streaming service) degrades beyond recognition while prices rise through the ceiling. I can understand that people are pissed when they already subscribe three “big” streaming services, and then notice that the film they just wanted to watch is no longer available in any of the three, because it moved off to yet another provider, but in turn they are also force-fed brainless ads like one would expect in a free to view service.

Apart from 3., I’m in full agreement.

If I have to work on an American QUERTY keyboard, I have to look for each and every special character. Because our QWERTZ-keyboard has them in other places to make space for all the interesting characters an American keyboard simply fails to offer.

There is an easily hackable and cheap device from IKEA by the name of “VINDRIKTNING”. There are YT videos on how to wifi-enable that thing and integrate it into home automation services.
