  • World Wars are for the war machine fanatics. That’s really where it starts for a lot of people.

The American Civil War is mostly where you’ll find revisionists and southerners, but there are also true enthusiasts. There’s a lot of discussion in regards to the Mexican-American War priming the country for the Civil War, or discussion regarding the politics of the time and it’s impact on the course of the war.

Falklands? I want to assume that if you’re British then you’d like to forget this ever happened. Although the war did result in the disposal of a dictator and brought a country into the folds of democracy even if it had to occur over what is essentially a colonial territory dispute.

French and Indian War? I’d just say you enjoy colonial era history? Or you’re currently living in the area that it occurred.

  • Law unfortunately. JDs simply are not worth much outside of this country. Canada has the NCA program I believe, but that takes a couple of years. If you’re familiar with this program please feel free to correct me. Foreign council is an option for many countries, but given that the legal system is slowly failing in this country I don’t see that as a safe long-term option. I lack general experience in that area anyways.

I have friends struggling to find work right now too. The political and economic climate being awful has contributed to this a lot, and I have to respect having some financial stability over potentially being in an unfamiliar country without such stability. I also suspect Americans may not be welcome in a lot of places at this current moment in time either. So that’s how it goes I suppose.

For those that don’t get it this is survivorship bias.

During World War 2 they were attempting to figure out how to better equip the planes they had to survive. A certain statistician by the name of Wald figured out that the holes in the planes that they could track weren’t that important because those were the planes that returned. Instead it was safer to assume that everywhere else needed better protection, as the planes that received damage in those areas weren’t returning.

Sorry if I ruined the funny, but I saw the downvotes and was concerned.

  • As funny as it could be I wouldn’t want to play any part in it. You don’t know when someone is going to lash out.

I spent close to a year being stalked and harassed by another man, although for a different reason than what could happen here. I wouldn’t wish that upon anyone. Being an ally shouldn’t have to mean taking the bullet for someone else. We should be working together to create safety networks where no one has to be at risk or in harms way.
