Fuck AI@lemmy.world•Washington denials and AI bailouts | The AI industry is fishing for a federal bailout. Why?English
13·4 months agoIt’s because Silicon Valley ultimately serves the Military Industrial Complex even though it may look like just photo sharing, video games and likes. So when you’re project that has military applications needs a little more money before it’s ready, you go to the taxpayers for that bit of scratch.

Today I Learned@lemmy.world•TIL: Why Cuba has the Most Teachers and Doctors Per Capita in the WorldEnglish
306·4 months agoIt’s a demonstation of a viable alternative system of governance and economics that prioritizes the masses. It would also be rather inconvenient if this was a place that any US Citizen could just pop off to for the weekend. It’s not an embargo of any product or service. Fuck AI@lemmy.world•Not using AI is an INCREDIBLE untapped power source!English
6·4 months agoThis would assume that the ultimate goal of those developing these massive AIs is the common good. They’ll be pretty comfortable in their apocalypse proof bunkers while the rest of turn into compost. You won’t find empathy from those who don’t consider you to be of their species. We are all beneath them and therefore expendable.

Linux@lemmy.ml•[Q] Is it possible to reinstall Linux without losing Dropbox?English
51·4 months agoIt is of course possible but you’d likely be causing a big mess on the filesystem. If you’re able to move the install into a home directory, why not just archive what you need and restore it after reinstall? This would be the cleaner way to go about it.
