1·4 months agoI have tried trillium, it looks good but mi y main issue is that the notes are not plain text markdown. It using its internat l database that makes syncing to other devices with syncthing harder. But yeah, otherwise great alternative.

18·4 months agoThe main difference is that having a home server means You are in complete control over Your data. You can run home server and isolate it from the internet, running only on local network. Great for privacy and You are not relying on some external provider being reliable and available.
It also has it’s downsides. You have to maintain the server, keeping it up-to-date. Checking if some components need upgrading or replacing - which is mainly about having healthy drives so You do not loose all Your data.

27·4 months agoStarted my own home server about a year or so ago. Currently hosting Immich for me and my gf. Jellyfin for archiving movies shows and downloaded YT videos. Forgejo for local git where I backup my work. Homeassistant to manage lights in the appartment and some other small stuff. Linkwarden to archive important websites and links I might need in the future (docs for work, how-tos for the server itself so I dont loose all that setup kbowledge). Syncthing to sync files between multiple devices - which is awesome, easy to setup and pair folders. Seafile to share files.
It has been great, it draws around 20-30W idle.
I am currently in search for Obsidian and Bitwarden self hosted alternative that can be run in docker container - if anyone has some ideas I am all ears.

28·5 months agoThe rate is higher because we can “catch” more cases with better diagnosis.
Imagine machine that is throwing 100 balls per second. Another machine that can catch 10 balls per second. You catch 10 balls.
Now newer machine can catch 20, and newer can catch 50.
Does that mean the number of thrown balls is higher? No. It just means we have machines better at caching them. The same goes for any illness, autism, schizophrenia, cancer, depression…
Some ilnesses we are better at curing, does that mean the the illness is getting weaker?

Also ignoring improvements in diagnostics.
Although, being gravely negative comes with its own additional issues like worrying about possible negative future that in 99% of cases does not happen. We have one overly negative person in the family and it is wearing them down, all is bad, other people do [put anything that you’d think is absolutely fine] better/differently so we must be doing it wrong and it will fall/catch on fire/explode. Being positively realistic is IMHO the best path.
But what do I know, maybe that is just the positive side of me talking and some train really derails and hits me in my office in 4th floor.

You’re right, both are scumbags. But it’s just the slimy-nest(? is that an english word ?) of it. “Here, the same thing you are trying to download, but we will be tracking your behaviour, which is better, trust us!”
I might be biased, being Linux and Zen browser user. But every time I have to deal with windows for our clients, my soul dies a little. Knowing they unwillingly sacrifice performance just because they have to use one software that for no reason runs only on Windows.
“… with the added trust of Microsoft.” Hahahaha, fuck NO!
Yeah it makes me happy to see my features WORKING in production. But most of the time I am the only one enjoing them just working :D
“You are correct! The sentence should be changed to death, in some countries, stealing bread is considered a capital crime.”
I pull them all the way down for my pussy.
