I’ve never actually finished it. I played through about 3 times on the DS and gave up every time during the Dracula’s castle.

I came to say I’ve been playing the Dominus collection. I loved the games on DS but I’m a little rusty and got ridiculously beat down by the first boss in Ecclesia.

I control a htpc with an Xbox gamepad. Bazzite I don’t even think about updates, it just happens instead of saying “should probably update” and unplugging my nose and keyboard from my other PC. Or leaving mouse and keyboard sit on the floor in front of my tv cabinet.

Most handheld suppliers are shipping windows, replacing it with an immutable system is definitely the way to go. On screen keyboards are play I guess, but even my experience just doing a regular distro on a tablet it was a hassle.

Look, I’m not going into detail on this anymore. But I want to say I’m surprised by how much people are pushing back. “Oh instead of using bazzite, you could setup rsync to do an a/b switch with your server if something goes wrong”. (Elsewhere in these comments).

I just didn’t think it would be so much for people to accept there are use cases for why people do things differently to them.

Because when I finish my 10 hour shift, get home from my 2 hour commute, to my 6 year old kid crying because she managed to fuck her Minecraft machine up somehow, I don’t want to spend my only free half hour that day trying to work or what she did.

That’s not a learning opportunity for her. Even if she had the patience to sit there and watch me try to fix it, she won’t r get what I’m doing. And after getting up at 5.30, getting home at 7.30 watch how good I am at not just swearing at the thing instead.

A htpc in which you just need to launch media

A steam Deck like handheld in which you just want your game launcher

A PC for a kid whom you don’t want messing around with system files

A PC for your technologically inept family members to just use as an email/browser/word processor

I’ve been daily driving cosmic for 6 months and it’s worked great. I guess if you’re trying unconventional stuff you might get into breaking it, but otherwise you’ll just find some minor annoyances.

I’m using popos but I’m not sure what kind of advice you need. You use apt to update and not Pacman. If you want to play windows games I recommend a combination of Heroic and faugus. This isn’t necessarily pop specific though.

I only want to play 2 because that’s what I had back then, the PC port. I know I can play just the 2 stuff in the remake but didn’t know if it’s lost the charm.

I get it. No, I misunderstood and thought this was software for Mac.

Should this be posted in an Apple/Mac group then? Feels like you’d get better response that way?

Ubuntu feels a bit slow, the snaps I think is that problem as they launch slower. But Ubuntu-based distros don’t use snaps (Mint, popOS).

There are also Ubuntu-based distros that don’t use gnome (Mint, popOS).

There are also non-Ubuntu distros that do use gnome. There’s people who like gnome and people who don’t, but it’s not “bloat” and it’s not limited to Ubuntu.

Shadowrun (Sega version) - one of the best RPGs of all time

Grim Dawn - I was a big Diablo 2 guy, and this is the next step up

Chronotrigger - probably my favourite RPG

Terraria - just a treasure of a game and fun for lan coop

Deus Ex - my favourite game of all time

Final Fantasy 6 - perfect example of what was good about the SNES

Sonic 3 and Knuckles - there’s a lot of excellent 8 and 16 bit platformers, this one is edging out some tough competition from Shinobi 3

KKnD - I’m going back to my PC roots in real time strategy, and I’m going with an old favourite that never lets me down when I go back to it

OpenTTD - I can (have) spent years building up a transport empire

Tyrian 2000 - the king of shmups

There’s definitely games I regret not being able to play again, but I’d be happy with this lot.

Budgie was started by Ikey Doherty for Solus. So quick background on Ikey, he does things because he thinks he has a better way of doing it, and he doesn’t do it for others so much as himself.

So we could probably say Budgie came about because Ikey wanted a desktop that suited him and his new (at the time) Solus project. And now it just goes on.

He’s at it again too. His work on Aeryn OS is all about building his own tools. He reinvents the wheel because it’s what suits him.

Cosmic.

Openbox was my favourite, but there’s not a really good Wayland alternative yet so I’ve stuck with KDE for years.

I wanted to try Cosmic so I went to the source with popos and it’s really a good time. I haven’t used a Deb/Ubuntu base since the Crunchbang days but this is good and it seems there is a Cosmic update pushed through every week.

Nice one. I revisit Shining Force every couple of years or so.

Calvin and Hobbes still daily posting but from that community specifically. they just did the classic ‘house got broken into’ story.
