Linux@lemmy.ml•Linux is awesome at home, but aren't y'all forced to use Windows at work?
81·4 days agoThinkpads running Linux for the staff.
We use open-source. Our own on-prem servers running Linux. A lot of our software is also open source. Our git, our office suite, our video and chat… All open source.
We just got rid of our Google Cloud connections a few months ago, but we’re still reliant on aws, cloudflare, etc.
Not if there are dogs, or bees. Or the dogs with bees in their mouths and when they bark, they shoot bees at you.
Yeah I would have been fine with this a decade ago but now this guy is listening to Joe Rogan and asking me questions like, “Hey so what’s up with that vaccine thing?”

At a Indian restaurant, the waiter said, “We have regular and spicy… And Indian spicy.” Then he goes, “I usually don’t offer Indian spicy to everybody”. I’m brown, and I was given special treatment. But honestly I think I broke his heart when I asked for regular because he thought I could hang.
Sorry man! 😭

- Person buys a gift card from a brick-and-mortar store
- Apple says its fraud

7·5 days agobut I’m learning that a LOT of people are either / or with phones and computers;
My knee jerk reaction was to say something smart ass like “well they should get a computer” but you’re absolutely right.
The customer service woman I talked to was surprised I could talk to her and browse the internet (on a laptop). She told me most people use their phone for everything. I met college kids who were typing their papers on their phones. My mom never owned a computer until I gave her one, and she leaves it in the corner “for emergencies”.
I have no answer. People will continue uploading their lives into Google photos, Facebook galleries, whatever - with no backup, and hope those companies store their data. I think the average person is fucked.

I don’t have a side. I just pick whatever is easiest to make a emulation station.

Technology@lemmy.world•Google is experimentally replacing news headlines with AI clickbait nonsenseEnglish
1·16 days agoSame. I don’t mind it if it was done by a group of writers who can finetune it or people who just hate that shit. But but Google’s job is to get more clicks and get more eyeballs. So I don’t trust them to game their own systems.

Right? This is confusing.
Go for it. Buy a portable DVD player with a portable screen and head phones to watch movies. Buy a clock, a dumb phone, a little portable game device. Buy a magazine with nudie pictures. Buy a camera and take it to a photo place so get physical copies of your dick pics. Mail them to your friends. Buy a megaphone so you can yell racist things to your neighbors.
All of this is still possible right now. No smart phone needed.
