This broke me. 🤣
This broke me. 🤣
It is. And don’t call me Shirley.
If you think that these days resumes actually reach developers, I have an AI company to sell you.
I would like to see these publishers take on OpenAI, Midjourney and others, who basically said that copyright laws should not apply to them because AI would be “impossible” without them having free access to everything.
you can be certain that these publishers don’t know that you exist
I think it’s better this way.
Not to mention fast.
Looks like I switched to Immich right on time.
Unfortunately deleting my photos out of Google now is a futile exercise. No matter what Google says, I’m convinced that they just make the photos unavailable to us, but don’t actually delete anything, ever.
Trade-in value, plus $400-500 USD. I generally change my phone once every 2-3 year, so I figure ~$150 per year amortization is fine.
I bought them at $50 each. They’re sold out everywhere and sellers are cashing in. Inovelli can’t make them fast enough. On their site everything’s back-ordered until November.
aeotec bypass
Interesting. It says that the bypass is installed at the light fixture. Does that mean if I have multiple in-ceiling recessed lights on a single switch I need a bypass for each one?
Easy solution. “The Internet Archive” should rebrand itself to “Archiving the Internet” to confuse everyone who talks about how “AI” should be able to steal books.
Agreed about changing the copyright law.
Until that happens though, they must not be allowed to have it both ways - call us “pirates” when we copy their shit without paying for it, and tell us that paying for shit they copy is “impossible”.
Libraries are still a thing. You can still go there to borrow a book, read it, and return it, so that others can read it.
Public libraries are under assault from every direction.

Pretty soon you either won’t find the books, or even the libraries themselves. Piracy is the only way they are leaving to us.
Itanium jokes are never going to be not funny!
Chaotic evil is “makes you create a ticket, doesn’t work on it, and then blames the ticket for the downtime to the CEO.”
Those videos were not anti-FOSS. It was an honest look into the state of gaming on Linux that even the experts begrudgingly agreed with. If you listen to Linus’ personal views on Linux, he’s rooting for an alternative to Windows and Mac.
Immich. https://immich.app/
AGPL, self-hosted, high feature parity with GPhotos. https://github.com/immich-app/immich/
SpaceInvader One channel on YT has several guides on installing the server on UnRaid and migrating your photo library from Google Photos. https://youtu.be/krAZcUIP3YE and https://youtu.be/LtNWxxM5Mzg
Louis Rossmann recently brought a lot of attention to it by offering the developers a grant via his FUTO org. https://youtu.be/uyTPqxgqgjU
Immich has excellent face detection, as well as search capabilities built-in that can be assisted with locally or remote run ML. https://immich.app/docs/guides/remote-machine-learning/
I’ve been running it for a couple of months. It’s under active development, but I personally feel that it’s stable and at a good enough place to be a full replacement of Google Photos. In fact, I turned off all uploads to Google in their Photos app, and rely on Immich auto-uploading to my server instead. Of course that means having a robust (preferably off-site) backup and disaster recovery plan.
Oh absolutely, it’s just an ad for Proton products. That doesn’t make the point about degoogling any less relevant.
What are the alternatives though? Self-hosting an email server is practically impossible because spam detection will block you on every turn.
I, for one, thank the German government for introducing me to a new site.
