I’ve got a couple guinea pigs. one assumes the tarp is the limit of his territory, whether or not there’s fencing.
the other one regularly goes wandering, but respects the areas I’ve said are off limits. and she knows she has to get back to her territory - the tarp - to get any treats.
so it’s entirely possible this bunny recognizes his “room”, as defined by the new rug.
ferrets are like kittens that never become cats. they get a little slower with age, but given they start like they’re running 3 times faster than the rest of the world, it’s not noticeable until you get a young ferret again.
my cat loses it if she wakes up and can’t see me. I live in a studio. there aren’t a lot of “out of sight” options. at one point, there was just a screen between me, in my computer chair, and her, on the bed. we still did the whole call and response.
she doesn’t look for me, she just starts yelling until I respond.
yep. I self-select out of dog friendly offices. if that’s a “benefit”, I can’t work there.
same with ferrets. if you don’t give them outlets to be “bad”, they will destroy everything. lots of pretending I don’t notice a they drag the old shoes across the floor to the new hiding spot, or “steal” kibble from the bag. had one guy that would check to see if I was busy in the bathroom before he’d go do the thing he really wanted to do. like steal the candy off my desk.
my cat, on the other hand, just yells for what she wants. worst case, if I leave her alone too long, she might decide she deserves a treat and will get it for herself. from the bag I left on the floor, knowing she could her it herself.
wide shallow bowl. she’ll eat to the bottom on the right side, then complain even though the left side is untouched. some cats are just special.
when we had a lot of cats and the occasional intruder cat, “duels” between one of ours and one intruder were most common. meet on neutral territory, hurl insults, maybe there’s an attack but maybe not. and only after sufficient insults.
this was a specifically male behavior, too. we got a young female cat, and the 2 older males were horrified when she came and jumped their opponent. she was very no holds barred, get off my lawn, don’t mess with my guys. a different time, a different young female cat was equally willing to jump in swinging claws and skip the insults.
typically the other male cats would be hanging around, observing and jumping in only if things moved from neutral ground to their territory.
depends. if I can use one of the vertical bars, going from the floor to the ceiling, I do that. but there’s a lot of space between them (not every seat) and I’m a short person. I can reach the loop, I can’t reach the handrail the hang from. so if the bus is crowded, I’ll wind up on a loop.
luckily, I get on my current daily commute early enough to grab a seat most days, but a previous job had me hanging from the loop every day.
my guinea pig herdleader likes when everyone gets to eat a treat.
she didn’t really get why the cat liked meatpaste, but she’d yell until I put out a treat for the cat. I often grab a little something to eat while I sit next to the pen with them while they eat their veggies. it makes them feel like I am part of their little herd. i get all the positive reinforcement grooming and nuzzling affection.
she’s just a little too greedy to give me her food, though.
