  • Hergé, the father of Tintin: “Next to him ( Franquin) I am but a poor illustrator”

Franquin took the comic to art level. The way he was able to draw movement has no equal, for example.

If you want to have your mind blown, read the “Ideés Noires”, an adult oriented strip, black on white, (hence the ñame), created while he was under severe depression. I think Goya would have approved.

  • I hate Musk and his personal everything, but Like SpaceX. However, when people gush about reusability, they seem to forget the 135 Space Shuttle missions (2 fatal failures , yes.). All done with 5 vehicles. Yes expensive etc, but truly amazing.

Also, I really don’t find anything SpaceX is doing revolutionary. Impressive? Yes, but it’s essentially incremental engineering, made possible by ginormous funding, including NASA money, and a private company doing things that NASA can-t politically afford.

Imagine NASA crashing 4 Shuttles before getting landing right. There’d be no NASA by now.

  • Great style! Nowadays it seems that all comics are either stick figure/Marvel/anime style.

I wish current comic illustrators would try to develop a style, and check out comics from non manga/Marvel origins. The Belgian Marcinelle school, or the ligne Claire schools are two great examples.

European comics provide an amazing range of styles, the study of which could be of great value to current illustrators.
