Though the article says they went from 1,900 to 1,700 employees, so not necessarily a huge amount relatively.

Bezos is also using his ownership of the Washington Post to silence the journalists there. So that’s fun.

Weirdly they are bringing back the PS/2 port.
One port!
Buy our special dongle to connect anything to it. It costs $200!
Barring an insane price jump, I may very well have a new little Mac Mini in a couple of weeks.
I’m very much due for an upgrade. But this one I’m using now has been really reliable for being 10 years old.
Excellent!
Kobo can connect to libraries via apps like Libby (or others), right?
I totally get that. And I have had that same experience once or twice. I break my own rule on those rare occasions where somehow the thing is only there.
The last time I bought from Amazon that I remember was in 2021 when I was putting together a new keyboard. Somehow they were the only ones that had the key caps I wanted. The only other place I could find them was Alibaba, and the shipping there was going to be literally 2 months according to the site.
But for normal items, I go to the seller as much as possible.*
(*And I know for some sellers it’s actually cheaper for them to use Amazon for shipping. I get it. But also, still, I don’t want to give Bezos money so I avoid it if possible.)
Reminder: don’t buy things from Amazon.
Like, anything.
“But fast shipping!” No. Stop. Most places now have pretty good shipping, often for free if you happen to buy a certain amount. It’s OK if the thing comes in 3-5 days and not tomorrow. You will survive.*
*I know there’s a couple of niche cases where some people do need things quick and Amazon serves that purpose. But 99.999% of things are not that.
Wait, so the monitor has some sort of network capability?
I assume it’s full of streaming apps or something and they just also added this fun ad junk to it.
I appreciate that.
I mean, I’m not offended or anything. But I just don’t have any NEED to see that stuff when I’m just checking to see what people are talking about.
And that, to me, is fine. People can be furries or like furries. I’m OK with that.
On Bluesky, however, there is/was a ton of furry content being posted, and not just drawings or simple photos. I sadly know what a furry, wolf penis looks like by just scrolling through the app. So the moderation lists are great.
I honestly don’t see a lot of furry stuff here in my feed or server. Or even in All when I browse that from time to time.
Hopefully this link shared correctly, but I found that furries are all over the place there. And while I don’t care that they want to be furries, I don’t really want to see it all over.
Anyway, this moderation list has helped a lot in filtering out a lot of that type of post and has made my experience a lot better.
It’s a scary looking link, but I promise I just hit the share button from the app. This list is called “Ultimate Furry Mute”

Edit: and then this one is the same idea, just a different moderation list

Well, MS did at one point say Windows 10 would be the last windows and they’d just keep updating it.
Remember everyone, “Natural Gas” is just methane.
I’ve been using WP for personal projects for something like 15 years.
Nothing I’ve ever created has been that big, but I generally liked the tools nonetheless.
But now I think I’m out. I try to adhere to a rule where I don’t support rich weirdos as much as possible, and as such that’s why I use Lemmy to begin with. And don’t buy from Amazon. And don’t use Twitter any more. Etc.
So my next project now will totally be on new software. And hey, maybe I won’t have to use PHP ever again so this could be a win.
True. And that is a lot of people. But I was assuming way more than that based on the headline.
