  • I would get creative with it, just because she’s horrible doesn’t mean you don’t get to have a good time. “The purveyor of lies”, “fount of unreason”, maybe give her a nickname that relates to one of her mistakes. If you can come up with something new every time it can become like a game, even if you’re only saying them in your head.

  • I sweat like crazy and if I need to be running for more than an hour I’m going to want something to drink. But if I’m running an ultra (or doing a very long hike, or bike packing) having variety in fuel sources is really good for your mental health.

A friend of mine hardly has to fuel during ultramarathons and I am very jealous.

Also shout out to trader Joe’s for selling olives in little pouches. Also great for long days.

Edit: for those scientific people out there, salt isn’t the only thing that helps you hydrate, sugar also helps bring those salts and water into your system. So when I make my own sports drink I use the WHO recipe for Oral Rehydration Solution (ORS). Which is really salty, but as stated above, I am a very sweaty boi.

Sugar also is fuel for running longer, so I don’t see why not.

  • So I was teaching some kids snowboarding, one kid started talking to me about musk on the chairlift. He tells me that musk is the greatest engineer to ever live. I say that he’s really more of a business man buying up companies. Kid is not convinced. I tell him that the only engineering that musk may have done was software engineering on PayPal. Kid thinks that’s great support of his claim.

Adults and 11 year olds are pretty much the same, so I would say there’s lots of people that think musk is a super genius. Probably a dwindling amount, but there’s a lot of people on earth.

  • My brother was building ebikes back in college back when companies were just starting to sell them, so this was somewhere around 2010(I’m not so good with numbers). When he built his it was more of a moped. It had a throttle and a hub motor and could go pretty darn fast, though technically counted as an experimental vehicle.

I believe back then there were still laws about how fast a bike could go before it was considered a motorcycle, at least in New York. But I think going fast was part of the appeal of early ebikes.

There was a very hacky feel to the community then. I remember visiting my brother and seeing a guy ride an ebike with a trailer that carried all his batteries.

  • I’ve had a lot of luck joining a run club, but there are other activity based clubs. The trick to these though is that you need to keep going to them for a while before you really start becoming friends with people.

What’s really worked for me was working as a snowboard instructor on the weekend. I’m not saying do that specifically, but finding a second job based around teaching is an amazing way to meet other people who like meeting new people and being nice and sharing their skills and experiences. I should specify, the people I meet are other instructors. I’ve also met some people at events, like when I got my avalanche rec 1 cert.
