It’s easier than ever to use Linux these days and Lemmy certainly doesn’t lack for penguin faithful that’ll proselytize and condemn you to computer-hell if you don’t adopt their religion.

But the “”“problem”“” is that Windows works okay for the vast majority of users. Most of the annoying parts of W11 can be changed or disabled within the OS itself, without needing special tools or knowledge. And I think that the vast majority of users don’t even care enough to do that. We use stock W11 at work and while the “new” style right menus and shit are annoying, they still function fine.

Windows likely won’t lose serious market share until prebuilt PCs come with Linux instead of Windows installed. Especially the non-gaming prebuilts.

It’s annoying to have different accounts but at the same time I feel like it’s a necessary component if you wanted to retain the same feel. Plus password managers making keeping it all organized dead simple.

Now that’s an odd design. Is there some reason they made it wrong?

I miss webforums terribly. phpBB boards were everything back in the day. Reddit/Lemmy isn’t remotely the same.

I keep hoping some of the new old web stuff will manage to strike a spark again.

What are the federated “replacements” available so far? Obviously Lemmy replaces Reddit, I think Mastodon is a Twitter replacement? Has anything tried to tackle the myspace/TB/LJ kinda thing?

And then you’ve got the “new old web” stuff like Neocities and CozyTalk I guess.

Old reddit is the only way I interact with the site at all, and only for communities and stuff that for whatever reason haven’t moved on to greener pastures. Once old reddit’s gone I guess I’ll finally move that site into the graveyard.

Reddit’s just so swamped with bots anymore. And even in the small subs where you’re reasonably sure no one’s wasting bots on, the people are just weird.

That’s how I felt when I tried bluesky. I missed the boat on Twitter and it’d already gone down the shitter so I never tried it. Figured bsky would be an opportunity to try the whole tweeting thing for myself.

And even still, it was just nothing but political bitching, navel gazing, and glorified (or actual) advertising. Like… what’s the point of it all? Deleted my account within the month.

Lemmy has its share of faults but at least people are willing to have actual discussions and conversations here. On bsky it felt like talking to a bot. People talking past each other instead of actually communicating.

Lunacid was extremely enjoyable to explore but the gameplay is a little lacking. The “holy” element is extraordinarily powerful against most foes, so your weapon choices are effectively limited. It’s also quite easy on default settings, while the difficulty slider seems to do nothing but inflate or deflate monster HP and damage.

I’d love to see a Lunacid 2 someday.

How’s the gameplay stack up as compared to P5R and SMT5? Do they go with baton pass, single-aspect party members instead of swappable summons and other Persona things or is it closer to mainline SMT?

P5R is fun but definitely harmed a lot by the combination of silent protagonist and the characters being children. The game being stupidly easy doesn’t help, either.

There was also a big issue with Anne’s backstory involving sexual harassment and assault by the teacher we’re investigating and our forced fourth party member being a bog standard “anime sex pest character” who immediately begins harassing her the moment he meets her. Kind of tone deaf writing there.

There’s some genuinely good character moments that are unfortunately hamstrung by the silent protagonist, especially when other characters get voiced lines in the same scene. I don’t expect P6 to change this but it’s a serious design flaw, IMO.

Great music and visuals and possibly the best UX I’ve seen since Dead Space. The definitely final boss added in Royal is on my top 10 favorite villains because… shit, dude maybe kinda has a point, don’t he?

Replayed Blasphemous and Blasphemous 2 for the fourth time since Blasphemous 2 just got a pretty good “legally distinct Castlevania” DLC for free recently.

Blasphemous 2 is still pretty far up on the list of greatest metroidvanias and can be had pretty cheap these days.

Both of those take basically the same amount of time. It’s very fast on Windows if you pin the folder you want to that list you’re talking about skipping.

No. It’s made up nonsense, like 99% of justifications for gun laws. The people writing the laws are rarely actually knowledgeable on the subject they’re writing legislation for.

Pretty much all of the big live service games demand kernel access for their anticheat, which typically isn’t allowed on Linux, so those games simply won’t work.

You think Linux is going to be a better experience? What do you think someone will think the user will think when they encounter a program or game that simply refuses to run on Linux?

You’re too deep in the sauce, man. I have to reiterate that the average gamer is both horribly stupid and extremely lazy. You gotta keep that in mind. People smart enough and dedicated enough to go through the hurdles associated with gaming on a PC are likely already using one as their primary or sole platform.

It’s certainly a ways away but Gaben won’t live forever. I’m assuming there’s a clear succession plan in place and hopefully that everyone lined up are on roughly the same wavelength but… well, there’re no guarantees.
