Technology@lemmy.world•Drone strikes didn’t take out a Russian bot farm, but we were primed to believe itEnglish
4·25 days agoExactly. Those smart TVs can be used as proxy to get around IP bans, but they can’t run LLMs on their own to generate social media posts. They can’t coordinate DoS attacks, only play a part in them.

2·1 month agoIt’s easy to fuse and compose multiple equations into one. You can take this to extreme to represent any bitmap with a single large equation. When you zoom into bitmap the pixels are revealed. In same way, zooming into this procedural image would reveal limitations, it only looks good at resolution it was designed at.
The nice thing about it is that the math partially captures and models the reality. Clouds are turbulent so the math model for them is made with turbulence. It’s a great hobby.

6·1 month agoShould be covered for complete picture. But this doesn’t protect you as a consumer. Apple still has to let carriers execute code on phones. From perspective of attacker, targeting apple hw is best investment of time and effort, biggest market per exploit found.

Gaming@lemmy.world•Roblox loses $70 billion in value as company blames lack of viral gamesEnglish
10·3 months agoThe other day a friend asked me for games recommendation for her young kids, “anything to get them off the roblox”. Having grown up with Monkey Island and Incredible Machine, I really feel sorry for this gen kids and their always-online and ever-screaming lobbies.
The children gaming market is huge and roblox has it all pretty much to itself. The “problem” for their leadership is that the machine must grow. Being on top with no competition, that’s not good enough. Sustainable long term business with clean nose is somehow considered to be a failed business model. Both stupid and greedy, the worst combination to have as stewards of biggest online communities for children.

Programmer Humor@programming.dev•C++ takes decades to master
5·5 months agoI spent few years using it professionally and mentoring others, but never felt comfortable with it. Small eternities spent fighting the language constructs and solving typing puzzles. My take away is that I could just barely fit the C++ in my head and then there’s no room for anything else. I’m done with it for good.

Technology@lemmy.world•LinkedIn user hides AI prompt injection in bio to force recruitment spam to be sent in Olde English prose — bots also also manipulated to address user as ‘My Lord’English
187·6 months agoDo it to have a laugh but don’t kid yourself this will change anything. Your time is limited and precious, the machine can scale beyond our comprehension. It doesn’t feel and can’t be humiliated or humbled.

Technology@lemmy.world•Software Engineers Say They're Losing the Ability to Code Now That AI Does It for ThemEnglish
3·6 months agoIt’s not even about skill atrophy, it’s more subtle. You can quickly relearn forgotten skills.
Unlearning a habit, on the other hand, is much harder. If you get into habit of reaching for AI anytime something hard needs to get done it’s going to wreck your internal motivation and reward system. meme_historian describes it really well in this thread, I noticed the same thing happening to me.

Sorry to be that person, but is this AI? It has the same cursed face expression as well as them starting straight ahead vaguely instead of being in the scene.
