Tbh I just mostly be annoyed at how much US stuff makes it my way, even though I’ve never even set foot there. English became a lingua franca of sorts, and through the use of it online, I cannot avoid stumblin’ upon their news and, especially, politics. And sometimes I come to wonder if the (information-based) content I consume might be more relevant to US audiences, therefore rendering the information irrelevant to me.

I do have to give it to them, though, they do have good content online (or rather, content in English tends to be quite good, and in my opinion, unmatched in many languages of which I know and understand, for the number of YouTube channels I follow in any other language pales in comparison to the stuff in English (where are the non-English video essays, funny but sometimes also wise commentary videos, and interesting and sometimes quite fun videos on topics that might teach you a thing or two? (shout out to Ter and Jaime Altozano for the (less frequent) fun content that keeps my YouTube* feed the tiniest bit less English (and never makes me question if I actually like their content, as it’s usually great stuff))))

Also, United States of America? Cause… their country is made of states, and these are united? What are countries, if not states, united, after all? And… it’s in America, the continent, as well! Did they not come up with a better name? Almost reminds me of Monty Python’s witch scene, from The Holy Grail. “And what are countries made of?” " Land" “Churches” “States”. Who art thee, so wise in the ways of science?

They might not be confused, but if you’re not from the US, they’ll be wrong (spoiler: America is a continent, usually broken down into North, Central, and South America (and Latin America, for hispanic countries and Brazil. Other subcategorisations of “America” the continent might exist))

I wonder the statistics of programming socks. Like, where did they come from? When? Why? What came first, the programming or the socks? Did they exist, or how popular were they back in, idk, 2000s? 90s? 80s? Actually, what even are programming socks? Maybe I should just research that, and look also into Google’s Trend for programming socks over the years. I mean, I’ve programmed, and wasn’t even aware of programming socks. Been programming in any way, shape, or form, for longer than I knew of programming socks, and I am young. Are they a trans thing? Or a femboy thing? Or are they actually a programmimg thing? Interesting concept: no heaven or hell. The afterlife is living your life all over again, but from the “perspective” of everyone you ever interacted with. Beat up some guy on the streets when you were 23? Guess who will be waiting for you on that faithful day, when you’re 23. Is there nothing that can be done about it? Maybe have some sort of community to find smaller communities. Maybe people just don’t know (and maybe don’t look for or find) there’s a community they might like

Is the audience for it not here or does the audience not find smaller communities? I for one just browse whatever loads up on Jerboa, and created an account mainly to have some control over what I see (i.e., blocking stuff I’m not interested in). I don’t know that I’d find smaller communities if they don’t get more popular or popular communities get less active to the point of these smaller communities showing up. I don’t know that I can search for anything but communities (on Jerboa, at least). Is there even a search for general, idk, posts and stuff? Not denying maybe the audience isn’t here. Just think maybe finding smaller communities isn’t as easy (or maybe it’s just me, idk. I’m not even looking for specific communities, tbh. Lemmy is my “eh, I’m not doing nothing right now. Imma just check this app on my phone”)

Can we not create the communities we wish to see on Lemmy ourselves? I know it might not be full of people at first, but if it at least exists, people who want to interact about said topic in said community can find it eventually and do so, and it can grow over time. Or is this not how it works? Is my logic flawed in any way?

I don’t really have much to say on the topic, even as someone with autism myself, but I hope things get better for you! Life has its ups and downs, and I hope brighter days will come for you!
