Same here. What especially irritated me was that even though I installed the .deb firefox and followed the directions to disable snap firefox, occasionally Ubuntu went ahead and reinstalled snap firefox for me.
The first time I saw it, I laughed for a few minutes. It still cracks me up. I think the woman’s face in the past panel really adds to the punchline.
Surely you can’t be serious.

Yeah. That’s my favorite movie, so this comic played right into it.
Yeah. I grew up in the days of serial ports and parallel ports, and USB in general is so much better for most purposes. (I recall plugging my first mouse into the serial port…but wait! Where will my Hayes Smartmodem modem plug into then? Also, don’t plug and unplug things from the serial port while the computer is running.)
And USB-C is even better. My tablet needs a charge? Well my laptop charger is right here… My phone is low and needs a quick charge? Well my USB-C tablet charger will give it a decent boost very quickly. No worries about getting it plugged in the wrong way, either.
I have a docking station for my work laptop, so when I had to replace my personal laptop, a laptop that supported USB-C power delivery was mandatory. I don’t use it with the docking station very often, but knowing I can without an issue is great. My wife also has a Macbook that works on the docking station, too, in case she ever wants to use my dual monitor setup. All three laptops, from three different brands, are just plug in and go.
Hell at this point even the US flag makes me think “Trump fan ahoy”.
Thanks for rescuing her. We already have 3 cats and a dog, but if I was on a situation like you were, I might have to adopt a fourth. We absolutely don’t need a fourth cat, but I can’t see one abandoned like that.
We have a law in this county that we’d have to turn them into the shelter, but then we’d get first dibs at adopting. I might do a “we’ll give her a good home if no one else steps up in a week” sort of thing.
I gave up running an email server long ago - I thought it was basically impossible because too many spammers were doing it for nefarious purposes.
The second one gave me a message that the domain has been seized. :(
I came across a bowling arcade game that ran Linux. Still kind of wishing I’d bought it.
Shouldn’t it be an X 2.0? Did he just deadname his own company?
Yeah, though the kid was like 7 or 8 - old enough to know better. But his parents were divorcing and their mother had had them for months and was letting them get away with everything - the father (who brought them to our house) was trying to get them back in line, but he was overwhelmed.
He and his brother also got into a cabinet where I have the LEGO Simpsons house and Kwik-E-Mart and tore both of them apart. I can kind of understand - LEGO, play - but also…dude, this is someone else’s house. Fortunately it was LEGO and could be rebuilt. They were breaking stuff or letting the cats out every time they visited (one left the door wide open…who does that? I said, with irritation, “You have to close the door!” and the kid got all upset, but when it comes to my pets, I’m not going to mess around).
We tried to be patient and help - it’s difficult to teach kids manners if they haven’t been in the situation where they need them, right? Eventually they did settle down somewhat.
Can confirm. Source: Had a friend’s kid climb one of ours and damage it. Fortunately he didn’t fall and hurt himself, and no cats were hurt either.
Pretty much. Oh but the updated dependency required for your new program breaks an old program you’ve been relying on for years!
“If you want to know how Linux works, ask a Slackware user.”
I’ve mentioned this a lot lately, but I used Slackware from the late 90s (3.x days) until about 2009 on my desktop and laptop, and about 2017 on my server. I just got tired of dealing with dependencies and switched to Debian (all three run Debian now). I had the CD subscription and would automatically receive the latest version about twice a year.
Patrick Volkerding (if my memory is accurate) has my utmost respect, and I do feel a little bad about abandoning it, but I just didn’t have the time to deal with it any more.
That reminds me - for my Lenovo laptop, no issues at all with suspend and resume (just like Kubuntu). But my desktop was going to sleep when I first installed Debian, and it was NOT waking up gracefully; in fact I had to reboot it each time. Since I didn’t want it to go to sleep at all, I didn’t attempt to diagnose the issue beyond turning off the suspend mode in power management.
You’re actually insane. Got it.
Roads are a shared resource, and we all have a responsibility to use them wisely.
Driving around too fast to stop - whether it be vehicle or horse - is irresponsible. I don’t understand why this is a controversial opinion, but it sure as hell is. I ride bicycles, I drive compact cars, and I drive a pickup while towing a 30’ long trailer, so I experience all aspects of road usage and rage directed at me.
And somehow I know that I need to keep within my limits of braking. It’s not hard. Christ. I’m blocking you, I don’t need insane people in my life.
Aren’t those the stars people give on Twitter or Truth? (Or whatever Truth Social uses for upvoting.)
