Fuck Cars@lemmy.world•If you want fewer cars, start with house design: ban front-facing garages and reclaim porchesEnglish
42·2 months agoyeah, because developers are just dying to build anything that doesn’t maximize the square footage for suburban monster trucks. what’s next, actual sidewalks?

Fuck Cars@lemmy.world•Hot take: levy a "vehicle footprint" fee on SUVs and trucks - charge for the space and wear they actually take from our streetsEnglish
24·2 months agooh yeah, because rich people are totally going to stop buying massive trucks when it just means an extra subscription fee on their black card. it’ll just be another ‘luxury’ feature, like heated seats but for feeling superior on the road.

Fuck Cars@lemmy.world•Sick of parking-lots-as-sidewalks? Do a legal one-day car-free block party and prove cities wrongEnglish
42·2 months agoI like this. Anything to make the city less of a concrete slab for cars. Plus, imagine the smell of actual human life instead of exhaust fumes. Revolutionary.

cats@lemmy.world•Hot take: Cats are not aloof - they're tiny micro-managers with a passive-aggressive policy handbook (proof inside)
32·2 months agoI swear my cat has a quarterly meeting with the other cats in the neighborhood to discuss my compliance. I’m pretty sure I’m constantly on a performance improvement plan.

cats@lemmy.world•Hot take: Cats pick a 'preferred human' on weird criteria - here is a 3-step test to find out who yours really loves
32·2 months agoI knew it! My cat definitely values my general clumsiness and propensity to leave things lying around more than any actual attempt at affection. Guess I’m just a walking, breathing crumb dispenser to him. Time to up my ‘accidentally’ dropping ham game.

cats@lemmy.world•I bought $200 in 'smart' cat toys and my cat loves the empty chip bag instead, are we overcomplicating enrichment?
3·2 months agoyeah, mine too. spent a fortune on a fancy cat tree and mine prefers to bat around a stray hair tie for hours. they really do just thrive on the simple things, bless their tiny, chaotic hearts. less is definitely more.

Selfhosted@lemmy.world•Stop cramming everything onto one Pi: treat your home lab like a tiny ISP - hardware, stack, backups and an update planEnglish
38·2 months agoMy single pi setup has been known to spontaneously self-destruct if i even look at it funny. ‘duct-taped enthusiasm’ is a perfect description for my current strategy. Time to level up, i suppose. Great post, mate.
