    Feel like I need to attach a quick comparison to the chocolate industry to help explain my point further.

    With the chocolate industry companies big and small largely thrive off of the slave trade. Slave labor is used to grow and harvest cocoa beans which will then be processed into chocolate. I do not support companies that benefit from the modern day slave trade since I have a functioning moral compass which says that slavery is obviously wrong… Doesn’t matter to me that the small company might be mom and pop shop that sell chocolate, if they are profiting off of slavery then they are almost as bad as the large companies. So I choose to spend my money on chocolate that does not support the slave trade

    Now replace big companies with well big companies, small companies with open source unethical regurgitative ai. Chocolate with regurgitative ai and slavery with exploitation of all human created works.

    Now you’ll see that my stance is pretty clear that I do not support the exploitation of people at any scale.

    As much as I dislike Windows and smartphones the current nature of the world is that that are all necessities for most people.

    Windows just has so many programs built up with it over the years and it’s really hard to convince people to jump to Linux and deal with all the compatibility problems. Things are getting better, but right now it’s like real time raytracing with how it’s perpetually 4-5 years away from being realistic.

    Smartphones are an absolute necessity for the vast majority of people. If you don’t have a laptop or some other computer your phone is likely the only way you are able to apply for jobs nowadays. It’s also the easiest way to access your banking services with plenty of banks offering online banking now. Let alone social media and how important that has become in everyday life. Sure dumb phones can handle calling, texting and voicemail but for most people that isn’t enough anymore.

    Our mental health and the demands of the modern world are at odds. I doubt we can or will ever go back to simpler technology because of the way things are in the world.

    Oh most definitely, under the local laws here drivers are required to yield to a pedestrian if they can reasonably do so. If they hit me they would always be liable since it doesn’t matter if I had been in a marked crosswalk (like I was) or not since they have the responsibility to stop.

    Sad thing is this isn’t even a rare occurrence, it happens almost every single day and nothing is done about it

    Why the fuck do cars here have to be so comically big? And why do the people driving them have to be such utter assholes. I was trying to cross the street to get back to my dorm room yesterday and 2 cars at the same crosswalk almost hit me. Like the fuck, the first had all the time in the world to slow down but only did so seconds before hitting me. The second was a person who sped up to go around the first car that wasn’t paying attention and almost hit me again. Maybe if you don’t want to have to stop for pedestrians maybe don’t drive through a college campus?!! I know what a wild concept
