I guess they would just put in a lot more ads to make it sound at all reasonable.
It seems a little far fetched for a subscription model to take off after Microsoft basically turned the OS in to freeware with ads.
This will actually make search more viable in the long run because at the moment too much of the solutions for small technical problems are on reddit. The main driver from new users will be gone.

That’s fine but people with modern high core count cpus get a measurable advantage with 11s new scheduler. All that I had to do was use something other than the built in taskbar and start menu and I’ve been fine with it ever sense.
I lost a lot of interest once I realized that the story lines would always turn in to “computer bad”. End. I missed when we had more interesting scifi short stories turned in to anthology episodes.
You may already know but just to add to things, they were extremely common because machining tolerances weren’t quite there yet to make cheap reliable interchangable magazines. Even once they were starting to be designed to be interchangable soldiers would still need to find a particular magazine that works reliably in their specific weapon. Stripper clips were far cheaper to make and while not quite as fast as changing a mag in a modern firearm but once you are used to it it’s not that big of a disadvantage.

In their minds they were just as virtuous in their fight against adversities and died for their beliefs. My point is that that you can have these great convictions for horribly causes. The great blind conviction isn’t a virtue. It doesn’t mean that early Christian writers should be respected. Ancient political movements with cults of personality associated telling their followers to die for the cauce is always disgusting.
The terrorists on 9/11 were just as brave dying for their faith.
It’s a bit like saying, a lot of atheists find the Scientology message of self improvement interesting though, the rest of Dianetics? Meh
I hadn’t been on irc in over a decade. The issue is I don’t know anymore where anyone actually hangs out. Sure there are plenty of niche servers for software projects but as a general use sort of thing I really don’t know where to start again.
